Seat swab

Good afternoon Dan

Is it possible to get replacement leather seat swab for a 2011/12 Parchment Semi-Aniline Seat? if so the price, please.
I have since found out the seat had been colour matched and after the 3 years of ownership, it is now showing a different colour?

Regards

Alex

I found a way to do it without removing the seat.

Recommend doing the foam base at same time.

What price is the cover pls ?

. Cheers, Greg

Ok so all instructions say to do this you need to remove seat....

And to remove seat you have to disconnect the airbag and to do that you need to disconnect the battery otherwise you will mess up the airbag ECU.

For me, without a garage or driveway meant I had to try to find a way of doing it with the seat in the car.

To get the squab out you need to remove the valance panel on the left of the seat (assuming we're talking about the drivers seat). This is hard against the console and you can't undo the torx screws. So you need clearance between the seat and the centre console.

So undoing the two rear main seat bolts, and the front left main seat bolt (nearest the centre console) allows you to carefully pivot rotate the whole seat on the front outboard bolt without stressing or pulling on the cable connector under the seat. Check check check as you go.

You can swing the back of the seat away form the centre console and get a very short torx driver in to remove the valance screws.

Swing seat back to normal position then carry on removing everything else you need to remove and eventually can unclip the seat squab cover and change it - or in my case change the foam.

I also think this seat-in-the-car method reduces the risk of damaging paintwork getting the seat in and out which is very heavy, aside of my issues of a street-parked car and no garage etc.

There is a detailed wiki write up for taking apart the seats too which helps with a lot of the details.

If you have heat/cool seats then check the ducting while you have it apart as mine had collapsed (wasn't me!) through age. The ducting on the base is made of foam layers which are additional to the main base foam. The whole lot works out quite expensive to replace. I replaced my foam but repaired the ducting which is on one of my posts if anyone needs.

On that same post you can also see how you don't necessarily need the hog ring pliers.

Good luck!

. Cheers, Greg

No probs Tinman,
Getting to the seat back heat/cool unit is fine, the seat base heat/cool can only be removed by getting the cover and foam all off first..
Which was a right pain....

What was the price from Dan?

. Cheers, Greg

My seat base foam fix is here:

This also has the bit about the hog rings - if you don't want to buy the special pliers.

. Cheers, Greg
