Electronic Handbrake cable snapped...

Hi all my 2007 gift that keeps giving has dished out another treat - the handbrake cable has snapped to one wheel...

How is the best way to sort this? To access the mechanism it looks like you have to drop the subframe? Is this correct and and you put a new cable in?

Is there a way to remount the mechanism under the subframe or something so if it happens again it’s an easier fix?

Thanks Current stable:

Yes you have to drop the subframe to provide access and enough space to remove the EPB module. You will also need to use iiDTool or similar to "set" the EPB module.

I really do not believe there is any way of remounting the EPB module on the outer side of the subframe. Might make sense to change both cables while you have it out, and properly service the EPB module/cogs/motor, then hopefully yuo won't have to worry about it again. .

Well that stinks - when you say set is it to clear the faults ? I have a snapon tool would that be ok? Is it worth just getting an entire new epb module or am I talking big bucks? Current stable:

Read the F manual, it is explained there Wink

From memory, it indicates the requirement to put the EPB into "service mode" or something similar, in order that the cogs and connectors are in the right place.

Yes, big bucks Evil or Very Mad .

When my 2007 EPB packed up i sourced a secindhand ine from the Ukraine and had it serviced before fitting. My old one had a burnt out motor which would have been an easy fix but I didn't want to have to much down time because it is a big job. 2015 4.4 AB

I've just had to have my EPB module replaced as it failed the MOT on one side of the park brake not working, Apparently some of the gears were stripped in the EPB.

It was not cheap. I'm surprised your cable broke before the EPB!

I still don't understand the point of EPBs. Totally unnecessary and overcomplicated. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE
