Reduced Performance (Limp Mode) No Fault Code

Hi everyone, I have a L322 2011 4.4 TDV8 and it randomly keeps going into Reduced Performance (Limp Mode) but does not show any faults (I am using Gap iid tool). It can do it when accelerating slowly or hard, mostly does it when going up long gradient and lightly accelerating. If i press clear all faults on Gap tool it gets rid of the Reduced Performance message and then the car runs perfectly. I did a trip of about 100 miles and it went into Limp Mode 12 times. Can anyone give me any suggestions where to start diagnosis. I have checked all hoses for splits. My car seems to have 2 air sensors one in each air box but I can only see 1 Mass air flow on Gap tool, could these trigger limp mode and not show a fault code.

Any help and suggestions how to get to the bottom of this would be great.

If teh MAF wiring goes open or short it would then show an error, if the reading were incorrect it wouldnt. I had similar problems when I first got the GAP tool, light on but no errors, there is a setting somewhere to show all errors not just ones that have happened 'x' times. Im away at the minute so cant check, have a look around in the GAP software the next time you have the fault. BMW i3 Electric Car

Symptoms match split hoses.

Recommend double / triple check your hoses. Cracks can appear underneath or under the hose clamps.

Number of times I've read hoses are fine, then eventually hose splits found.

. Cheers, Greg

Next favourite on the list after split hoses would. be a split in the plastic plenum chamber., usually at one of the seams.
Get a clean white tissue and slowly wipe round all the joints.
Air leaks are usually spotted by finding traces of black sooty deposits near the split.
Failing that get a smoke test done.
Mike.

The original secondary turbo inlet isolation valve on 4.4's built before late 2011 is prone to sticking. It is high on the list of suspect causes after the 4 short air intake to manifold hoses. However these failures trigger fault codes so is your IIDTool correctly configured to read all fault codes?

Mine had a stuck valve replaced because of the restricted performance alarm, but it did raise a fault code to help locate the problem. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Martin

I go with the above. Mine did the same thing and that was the four short hoses one leaking from a split so replaced all four. Clean the MAF while you're in there. Just use electrical contact cleaner and as you have the plenum off clean the sensor in the throttle body.

Be careful of the small pipe leading off the rad hose connectors, easy to break and that's £80 sir.

Set the gap to read all fault status bits before you start to ensure you have as much info as possible. Cheers
Richard
