Injector removal help

Hello.

I'm trying to replace the right rocker cover/ inlet manifold on my 2008 3.6 TDV8.

I have removed all the fuel delivery and spill off pipes, and have pulled three of the four injectors. Unfortunately the rear injector fouls the inner wing and cannot be removed.

What's the technique for getting this out?

Many thanks, Giles

25mm spanner, nip the injector clamps up, put a mark down the injector with tippex to ensure the solenoid goes back in at the correct angle, then undo the 25mm nut... just be careful when you take the solenoid off as there is a very small pin that may fall out.. i did this a week or two ago on cylinder number 8, nearest to battery but im sure i read that the other back one will be the same way! 2004 td6 l322 - gone

That's great thanks. I'll do that.

So far, the job has been annoying. It's fiddly with limited access to the rear two injectors. I've got the rocker cover undone, I just can't remove it until this injector is out.

I'll report back when I've got further.

Thanks again.

Topix tells us to replace the injector seals pipework (incl leakoff pipes) as they are a one fit stretch/compression parts! They are not cheap but necessary I'm afraid...

Hi Giles did you manage to do this in the end? I've been told to lift the engine but this seems like an easier way. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Yes, I did manage it.

For the rear-most injector, the one with limited space to slide the full injector out of the block, do the following:
1. Remove leak off pipe, fuel supply pipe and electrical connector
2. Undo and remove the two injector clamp bolts and loosen the injector so it isn't free to slide in and out. You will not be able to remove it in one piece as the inner wing fouls its exit.
3. Put the two injector clamp bolts back in place and just do them up finger tight. This is just enough to stop the injector rotating.
4. Undo the large nut on the injector shaft, just below the fuel connections. It was something like 25mm, not sure. I think I used an adjustable spanner. It's pretty tight but fine. Undo this and the head of the injector will come off. Now just remove the rest.

Sorted!

Hope that helps.

Sorry!!!

Loosen the injector so it IS freed to slide in and out.

Shouldn't try to reply on my phone.

Thanks. Did you have any issues with the injector afterwards following splitting it? Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

No issues with the injector after I put it back together. I didn't leak and the injector values are good.

I was a bit worried about doing this but it turned out to be straight forward.

Thanks. I'm going back at it today. Did you mark the injector at all to ensure you got it tightened the same when you put the top back on? Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Also where do the plastic clips 2 coloured yellow and 2 white go? I didn't pay much attention to them when removing the injectors and can't really see a logical place for them. Thanks Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

I don't remember marking the injector. When you tighten the 25mm nut down, it comes to a dead stop. I left the 25mm nut finger tight until I refitted the fuel supply pipe. Once it was aligned, I snugged down the 25mm nut. It was less complicated than I imagined.

The plastic bits? Do you mean then small parts on the injectors which hole the injector clamping plate in place? If so, they're not necessary but the do make refitting slight easier.

By the way, refitting the little metal clips that hold the leak off hose in place is a pain. I tied a piece of dental floss around each one so that every time I dropped it I could retrieve it easily.

Thanks Giles. Yes ita the plastic bits that are part of the clamp for the injector. I can't see anyway they would go.

Amazing idea re the clips and dental floss. I was panicking about that bit Thumbs Up Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue
