Suspension on high

My, new to me Range Rover 4.4tdv8, seems to have a suspension problem. Apparently it has just had a new compressor fitted. I've noticed on just short journeys with speed no faster than about 40 mph, when I get out and before I lock it, the suspension sinks to what I would call normal height. It is not sinking to access height. It just looks as if it is lowering from full height! Any clues please?

it shouldn't sink.

you could try measuring the wing heights with the engine idling and the button set on the 3 hieght options then measure it stationary with engine running then again when you turn it off.

also, if you have a leak the compressor might be running full time to compensate for the leak (which may also have been the reason why someone fitted a new compressor anyway).

to give you a reference, mine (which doesn't sink!) typically runs the compressor for a few seconds after starting (or longer on command from the button to rise) and then stops with a discharge hiss. if you lift the boot floor panel and drive it you will be able to hear if the compressor is running permanently whilst you drive it

also, check if the whole car is sinking or just one wheel (which might give the impression that the whole car is sinking) as this might help to diagnose

Thanks for the reply mate. The compressor only runs occasionally. Obviously longer if I've lowered it myself and it needs to refill to raise it again. The front end lowers by about 50mm and the back end marginally when it does it. I will do as you suggest and measure all three settings. I have a feeling that the front right sensor has about half the voltage of the other three when I put my code reader on.

ive never tried this and happy to be flamed if it wont work:

1) take the compressor fuse out or otherwise disconnect it
2) plug your code reader in
3) jack the suspect corner up and remove the wheel
4) unbolt the hieght sensor from the wishbone / strut
5) with ignition on but not started move the sensor up and down manually to check for smooth voltage change
