Skiing isnโ€™t something to have a go at unless you are 100% confident, no matter what your age. I learned on a school trip aged twelve and still go every year 45 years later. And in nearly every one of those trips I have seen a novice skier injure themselves because they took on more than they should have. It can be great fun, but you have to know your limitations or be with someone who will stop you before you hurt yourself.

Thatโ€™s all part of the charm. Mind you, many an injury has followed lunchtime over exuberance! Somehow I have never managed to hurt myself.....

Andy S, you are absolutely correct. I took it up in my mid 30's but started with lessons. I'm naturally cautious, especially on the slopes as I'm sacred of heights. I rarely ski these days as we have dogs to look after, but I did ok and could do any piste, although not very elegantly. It took a long time to work up to that though.

A friend of mine visited once and I suggested skiing. He was very enthusiastic and I asked him if he'd done it before. 'Oh yes' he replied confidently. You do have insurance don't you? 'Oh yes' he replied confidently.

Well, he skied maybe 10 metres before falling over and breaking his leg. Instead of his cruciate ligament breaking the piece of bone it was attached to broke, so not a bad break.

I asked him in the hospital about his previous skiing experience and it turned out he'd done it for a weekend more than 20 years before. And his insurance covered him for anything apart from any activity that might get him injured - including skiing! Fortunately the UK government payed out.

Just dislocated my right shoulder yesterday whilst out splitboarding in Gargellen Austria ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿง๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ท
First run down as well before a big climb. Still thereโ€™s a silverlining .... the whole resort and region is closing on Sunday so it was my penultimate day anyway.
Could have been worse but managed to get it back in almost immediately. Lots of lovely physiotherapy for me now for the next few months ๐Ÿ‘ป shame as the snow was amazeballs

Norway is the only country at the moment that is stopping people coming in. If you do go in you go into immediate quarantine.
No sure about France but Spain may do the same soon Whistle

It's going to be the same across most of Europe

Andorra closed everything yesterday for a month - following the Spanish lead - no real warning - they announced around noon that everything was shutting at close of business Friday & would not reopen Shocked

Ski resort, restaurants, bars - it's like a ghost town - just a few people milling around waiting for their transfers out tomorrow

Thats exactly the same as Davos Alistair... They closed everything from yesterday onwards until at least the end of April... Supermarkets & Pharmacies are the only thing left open!

On the French Government website- Schools, colleges and universities closed. Currently no closure of borders but that is under continuous review.

No gatherings over 100 people.

Otherwise the advice is similar to UK and in conjunction with advice from WHO. John
