Why is the TDV6 so more fuel efficient than the SDV6 that was in my D4?

I could never get better than 34mpg in my D4 and that was on a steady run. Around the houses that would drop to low 20’s.

Lighter vehicle and more aerodynamics would all help but they seem to be so much more fuel efficient there must be more to it?

...and there’s a lower frontal area (drag = coefficient of drag x frontal area) and it’s the single turbo V6 in the Fatty vs twin turbo in the Disco.

Stan, was someone towing you?

My mpg on the car is up to 4 mpg out on "real world"; even so I have no idea how even allowing for that, you are getting 41mpg!! I don't know anyone who is averaging more than 29mpg with a 3.0l using an app to record the mpg. All LR cars from 1984

The most I've got on a long run is 31mpg and that was from Thurso down the A9 (50mph most of the time),and then M6/M5 doing 75/80mph.

The car showed 36mpg but the app showed 31mpg, The inControl is the same data as the car dash which I contend is at least 4mpg out maybe more. All LR cars from 1984

This is very true especially when you have one with the thirst of the 5.0 Whistle

But I keep an eye on it just to make sure everything is running as it should, if it was suddenly to fall into single figure mpg it would require investigation Thumbs Up

My Old Man (mid 80’s) who runs a 1.0 Hyundai returning 50+ mpg can’t understand why anybody would own a car with such dire fuel economy.

Ive put this up before but here goes.

I have the 5L 565BHP engine and in March went up to The Lakes from home in South Wales. As some have said, its not really important how they do on MPG its how they feel Very Happy . Obviously allowing for “fiddle” factor this is the run recorded.

I’m getting better figures the more mileage I’m putting on her. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Looks like more people have 4.4 Diesel just for the mpg yet it isn't that big a difference if price of diesel is taken in account. Plus not many will do high miles.

Does not make much sense to me.

It all depends on the type of journey and how you drive them. We have both 4.4SDV8 and the 5.0SC in the family.

Normal long journeys the difference is around 6/7 mpg. If the two are driven on short journeys or in a very spirited manor then there is a bigger difference with the V8 diesel doing around 10mpg more.

The other difference is with the Diesel you don’t spend so much time filling her up - I hate being in the SC and standing at a pump wasting time - it seems that she is being filled up almost twice as much. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
