United States 2011 Range Rover HSE 5.0 V8 Santorini Black
Died. Then no crank. Running out of ideas

Hello all,

New to me RR HSE 2011 5.0 here. Driving fine for 2 weeks. Died on the road - nothing especially unusual. AAA'd it home. Battery was low/dead.

1) replaced battery with new - charged over night
2) start button would black out screens with a single clunk sound. replaced start button with new.
3) read the threads - set a fuller plan
4) replaced starter (bench tested first) and installed new groundstrap to chassis as an overkill.
5) tested relay - tested good. replacements in hand. Swapped with fuel pump (also tested good)
6) disassembled and cleaned all grounds (filthy mostly)
7) disassembled, cleaned, and tested firewall mounted maxifuse/cable setup
8 ) disassemble, cleaned, tested positive terminal power management contraption - water ingress. failed maxifuse - replaced.
9) read codes again and full diagnostics (I have a foxwell NT510 as a longtime disco 2 owner). nothing of note in results
10) reset electronics via scanner tool (back to 2009 dated screen)
11) still a single clunk on attempted start.
12) pulled relay and jumped it - same result
13) pulled wires/cables (both previously cleaned and checked) from starter
14) installed jumper cable and wire
15) jumped to charged new battery (spare) - single clunk again
16) dismounted starter, bench test with same 12v battery - spun like a champ
17) reinstalled starter
17a) located breaker bar and 24mm socket for crankshaft pulley (no real efforts here yet)
18 ) cursed the gods of NJ humidity
19) washed hands and installed fan next to me in kitchen
20) composed this email

Any thoughts?

a) New Starter (a reman from Autozone as closest available) weak?

b) Engine seized? If so - best way to test a hand cranking?

c) tow car to delaware river and rent out as a floating addition to the local tubing company?

Many thanks assembled wisdom. 2011 RR HSE 5.0

Is the alternator providing a dead short to flatten the battery very quickly?

Haven’t checked yet. Not currently the focus as I can’t get the starter to turn the flywheel connecting directly to a jumper battery.

Buying a pry bar now to try and turn with flywheel with spark plugs removed.

Getting worried… 2011 RR HSE 5.0
