Hi. I thinking about getting one of the classic RR,s. I really only like the hard dash models and not so keen on the LSE.

Any owners have some info or pointers? would be great. Tia.

Rot, rot and more rot is all you need to know. Outer panels are ali (most), inner panels rot like hell...inner wings (F&R), sills, boot floor etc Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I’ve had many from new including the 3.5, 3.9, 2.4 VM and 2.5 VM diesels. As above - rust is the issue. Engines and gearboxes and axles are relatively trouble free. The VM diesels had issues with blown cylinder head gaskets - the 2.4 was worse than the 2.5 for this.

Chassis also last well compared to Defenders - the issues are rust in sills, door frames, boot floor and inner wings. I bought a new one in 1991, the bonnet rusted through on the front edge within 18 months. Literally they were made of cheese. But as far as classic cars go - they are up there with an Aston Martin - love them !

If you want an unbiased honest opinion for trouble ish free motoring go for a 3.9 efi, hard dash on springs. Avoid air suspension, Airbags (soft discovery dash), ABS and Aircon if possible. Keep it simple is the key with these. I would be looking for a 1991/1992/1993 Vogue or at a push a VSE but these have Aircon and ABS and some are on Air. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Air sus is pretty simple though on theses vehicles, no? Bags and a compressor, not that expensive to replace or refurb the compressor.

My hard dash LSE is on air, with ABS and air con, and I wouldn't want it not to have them.

The EAS on the classics was akin to waht you'd find on a HGV and it was a good system if maintained..

Post August 1989 the 16 gauge steel came in that was utter pants, it was contaminated from factory, and they rotted from the insdie out

Prices for these are all over the place. I have seen a couple of cars that they are saying are original rust-free in great condition for around the very low £20k, some quite decent looking ones that need some work under £10k and then one at Kingsley fully restored for over £60k. I,m thinking the ones in the £20k region with some deals to be done might be the better buys.

Nothing can be done now anyway so will watch and see what happens if and when things get back to some form of normality.
