Upgrade speakers

I’ve got the standard set up for an AB I.e. an 825W system. I see powerful are selling speaker upgrades for this but at £250/set they really do need to make a difference. Has anybody done this upgrade and is it an immediately obvious difference.? Geoff

I can't see them on the Powerful site - but surely £250 isn't enough for an upgrade ?

The 825w speakers themselves must cost more than that don't they ?

Sounds about right, it's only the 4 woofers in the doors. 2019 Vogue P400e

It would be interesting to find out if the Signature System subwoofer, which now is in the back, is different from the one in the Surround System in the 2018+ models. I'm wondering what was the point of moving it so now it fires towards the bumper?

They changed it from the previous model (2013-2017) which was located under the front passenger seat:

I guess that if you feel like you're lacking bass, then worth a punt.....

The 825w surround meridian system runs exactly the same door speaker set up as the lesser 380w system. Everything I’ve read where people have fitted the 4ohm speakers from the 1700w system ( picture above) have noticed considerable improvement. Even more so if you soundproof the doors

Interesting...I have the base 380W speakers but it says on the Powerful website that the amplifier has to be upgraded to go up to the premium speakers. Does anyone know how you upgrade the amplifier? 2017 Range Rover Vogue V6 Diesel

Before I specced the 1700w system I asked Meridian a few questions which was an extremely tedious process to go through. I got the destiny impression that this in-car lark was not their main money-spinner. And whether or not their response makes any sense is another matter!

I think "The Signature system is a full new set of prem* drive units which is unique to the 1700w system" means it has fancy speakers vs the 825w, but I do not have the details.

*Premium??

Quote:

Of the Signature 1700w system:
Q: Does the Signature system handle 24 bit / 192 kHz without down sampling via USB?
A: The current L405 system does not handle high res content (MQA), it is all down sampled.

Q: Is there upsampling of 16 bit / 44 kHz on the Signature system? Any other filtering? Are they user selectable?
A: There is no upsampling of 16 bit / 44Khz. User settings are choice of upmixer (Trifield), bass, treble and sub level. The system also offers balance and fade settings to optimize where the audio is focused.

Q: Are the Signature system's speakers have poly or kevlar cones?
A: The drive units for the Signature system use poly cones (midrange and woofer) and aluminium for the tweeter dome.

Q: How does any of the above differ from the 825w system?
A: There is no difference in the signal handling between the 825watt (Meridian Surround) and 1700watt (Signature) system. In terms of loudspeakers (drive units) the Signature system includes height channels and seat-back centre channels which are not available in the 825w (Surround) system. The 1700w Signature system includes Meridian Trifield 3D upmixer technology not available in the 825w system. The Signature system is a full new set of prem drive units which is unique to the 1700w system.

If it is the same amplifier as in the Range Rover Sport (and it probably is), this should apply:

The 825w amp is plug & play. The 1700w is not. And although the 825w will drive all your speakers that your 380w amp did but much better ( even if you upgrade woofers ) if you install the extra centre dash speaker and rear shelf speakers it won’t power those up until you edit the ccf. Also I don’t think the meridian amps are compatible with the HK system. You have to find an upgraded HK amp.

Hello
Did anyone upgrade the speakers in the 825watt system? Reading the link to the other Forum were a couple of people who have carried this out. It was said that (subjectively) improved the system over 50% over stock and can be reversed. The big comments were on the subwoofer.

Maybe in the new location, it is more inclosed in a box so gives a better base sound. I might look at doing this upgrade myself some time, as I do like listening to music and like being to be able to hear the extra parts in a piece of music.

I need to look at the new location of the subwoofer in the boot to check that any mats or floor changes (I like the idea of a sliding boot) would change the sound.

For the topix articles on changing the speakers what type of access do I need (or is there someone who could get them for me)

Many Thanks

I have a 2017 and I just completed the speaker upgrade from the L3 (base level) to the speakers that come with the 1700W super premium system. I purchased the woofers from powerfuluk and the tweeters and mids from an internet dealer. Here are the PN/s I used:

Component PN Qty MSRP
Tweeter LR033292 4 $79.65
Mid Range LR033293 4 $65.01
Low Range LR047119 4 $155.62

Sorry about my formatting here.

I'm about to tackle the amp upgrade from the 380w to the 825w. I'm hoping the 2017+ are plug and play like the previous years, I will share my results. The amplifier used in the newer models is different then the pre 2017s.

I haven't decided if I will upgrade the sub yet (to "super premium"), but the cost for the newer sub is substantially less than the previous years. I'm guessing its because its now just the driver and not the entire enclosure.

The sound upgrade from just swapping the speakers is very nice, but you will need to allow the new speakers to "break in" before judging the difference.
