Evening both, Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at that tomorrow (have just got in) hopefully that will sort it, if not, back to the centre cubby box & have a look there, I have a feeling that it's not connected in there, but we'll see. Once again, thanks very much for your help, it's appreciated.

Tommo

Tommo,

It was a right Censored Censored Censored to find in mine -- I actually made a loom to go from the front cubby box to the boot cubby side -- the connector in the front box on mine was on the passenger side, hidden deep under a lot of loom wiring -- I only manage to find it as I had a 'tone set' connected at the microphone end, which I could then listen for with an 'amplifier set' (its a wire tracing kit) -- good luck with the hunt ! Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Update

Morning all, quick update, I changed the pins to see if the microphone worked with them reversed, no joy, so put them back to the original positions, unfortunately i plugged in the wrong 54 pin plug consequently blew the ulf, got another coming any day,
I have also bought the Navcoder programme & obd lead, works very well, has the capability to enable the voice, it wasn't checked in the box. Have started to strip down the centre console to try & trace the mic wiring, just need to work out how to get cubby box out, I had to laugh after i took out the gear shift panel, found this, see photos, With hindsight, i should have made a video of the complete procedure and posted it, i know there is alot of information on the forums, but finding it all in one place has been a challenge for me, especially as i didn't understand some of the terminology as i'm one of these people who need to see the physical things & then i can relate the verbal/written description's to the job in hand, once again thank you all for your comments & info, been very helpful.
Regards
Tommo

That’s a start then. Too easy to connect the wrong plug. I taped my old connector off. I too had to use Navcoder to enable voice. Think you can force pairing mode too.

That rodent looks a bit iffy. I wouldn’t let him help anymore....

Afternoon gents, lol, hope it hasn't got any other little helpers in there!!!! hopefully it hasn't chewed anything, everything seems to be working ok......so far, annoyed at myself for plugging wrong one in that will teach me not to rush, anyway, can't see any single plug/wiring for mic, hoping its in the main loom, found a couple of plugs, one blue the other black, both only have one cable to them although both are 3 pin, so don't think they are anything to do with mic, the only cables i can see passing through the cubby box (rear to front) are not the same size or colour as the mic wiring, mic wiring to the mic itself are 2 x black (one smaller than the other) and a yellow. Hopefully when i get the other ulf fitted and plug in the Navcoder, enable voice, then see if it works, if not, back to cable tracing, I have also made inquiries for a gentleman to come to my work place to swop out the tv unit for a hybrid one, installs, sets it all up etc, i know they are plug & play, but this gentleman has refurbed the units he supplies & fits, so a bit of a guarantee with them, he only works within the west midlands, hence my arranging for it to be done at work, but still haven't had the ok to go back to work as yet, the ceo hasn't authorised the the re-employment of agency staff, although i was told a couple of weeks ago it was on the cards & was given a start date ( i work for the nhs)
the cost of the new tv unit plus fitting & setting up is £199, didn't think this was too bad.
Regards
Tommo

Hopefully you will get it sorted. Tv really is plug and play. I did that too, with a unit from a 2007 X5. Same place I got my ULF.

It works well when it’s, well, working....

Hello MJ, Do they not work very well then ? would the unit you fitted, fit in my 2003 model ? if you don't mind me asking how much was your unit? I put a a new post on a little while ago, I had a look inside the ulf module i broke to see what damage I had caused and have asked if anyone could identify the bits, I haven't a clue what they are (I'm a mechanical engineer) might be an easy fix, then again might not be, lol, just interested to see what it is

Works fine mate. I was referring to you....it will work well....when you get it working.

Prob didn’t word it so well.

It was like 2011 when I did mine. Can’t remember cost. Voice works better in the earlier cars I recon. You can put numbers into the ULF and say things like “Call Mum”. My tdv8 just says that’s too short....🤣 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Update

Afternoon all, Hope everyone have been keeping well & safe, been a little while but other ULF turned up last week, fitted it ok, used Navcoder to pair phone, worked a treat, enabled voice recognition, when i push steering wheel button it comes up on the dashboard, so far so good, but the problem is still with the mic, still haven't been able to locate the mic plug in centre console, think the whole lot has to come out including the cubby box, anyway, i couldn't find the plug from the rear wiring loom that should be in the centre console to which the mic plug should plug into, i had a look at the loom i bought & near the eject box plug, there is a 3 pin plug which i initially thought may be the pairing button, on looking at the wiring diagram (the one above, that MJ posted) it seems as if this is in fact the mic plug, i have now got to thread this through to the centre console.

this is the plug, wiring is the right colours.

on this photo, its saying that pin No1 (which was 54) is Yellow, mine is white, i double checked with a spare loom i have & that is white also ? any ideas.
Anyway gents still no sign of me going back to work, still furloughed, can't wait to go out for a meal, but I'll give it a couple of weeks for the novelty of lockdown restrictions being lifted to wear off, then book somewhere.
Once again thanks for all the helpful information you have all posted to me, it's appreciated.
Kind Regards
Tommo

I believe the yellow and the white wires are the ones that are suggested can be connected either way round. I tried them both ways and if I remember right, made no difference. Some have tried it and the mic only works one way round.

I can’t remember exact pins on ULF that the swapping refers to. I’ll have a look. The upshot is if the mic doesn’t work one way, swap the wires....

Here we go, it was 19 and 21 that seem to be connected either way round, so that’s 52 and 53 on the diagram above. One is a screen and one is earth.
