ULF update

Morning All, still no show on the antenna & cable, maybe today, fingers crossed, on the head unit screen, where the telephone is now white, I have another tag/label saying BMW Assist, has anyone else had this come up ? fitted the steering wheel control button with the face/voice yesterday, nothing happened when pushed, hopefully when antenna is fitted it will all work. Another strange thing happened when I reconnected battery, idle speed has risen to 900, plugged in my icarsoft, scrolled through settings, it said it was asking for 900 rpm, I'm hoping its due to the fact that the boot & door was open & the battery was draining, or the fact that the memory was lost & car will have to re-learn again, telephone unit has also been picked up on the icarsoft, no fault codes associated with it, so that's a plus. I'll take it out for a spin this morning & see what happens. Thanks for all your answers/replies, it's appreciated.
Regards
Tommo

Update

Morning all, quick update, the antenna arrived the other day, connected it all up, linked 32 & 36, nothing, head unit is still saying "Activate Phone" quick question, when the ulf is plugged in to wiring loom, are any lights supposed to be on ? on the head unit where there are 3 lights for telephone, if so, I have none ! any help would be appreciated.

You need to read my pairing link on the previous page.

You don’t just connect 32 and 36 together..... 32 is the ground for the unit, so must always stay connected to ground.

36 touches to it, anywhere along its length to simulate a switch press.....

Hope that helps.

Hello MJ, thanks for your response, what I have done just to see if it works was to take off the plug shroud, plug the blue pin connectors into the ulf module so that the unit is connected, from there I bridged out the pins between 32 & 36, nothing, activate phone still showing on head unit, have also tried stripping plastic sheath off both 32 & 36 wires & bridged across them, plugged unit in again, still nothing, that's why I asked the question this morning as to any lights on the head unit lighting up to indicate if unit is working, I noticed in someone else's post that he had a red light showing, although the person that answered didn't think the red light should have been on. it could, I presume, be a duff ulf module, but how can you tell without buying another unit considering the lack of indication on the 3 telephone lights on the head unit ? Would the actual ulf module require "turning on" / " activating" as such, via Navcoder or similar programme? I have just sent off for a Navcoder cable with usb & OBD port connection, also downloaded the programme, although the seller couldn't guarantee that it will work with the Range Rover

I had Navcoder, it does work on the RR, but I didn’t use it for this.

So you have just bridged them together? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hello, yes but still no joy, that's what makes me think the ulf maybe duff, but as I said there is no way I can see that the unit can be checked, although the unit does show up on my icarsoft analyser & on the head unit, along with BMW Assist!!! so I don't really know which way to go now.

Hi, you have to follow the pairing procedure, I will try and find it....it’s something like bridge wires....ignition on...within 5 seconds pull wires apart.... the 3 lights then flash on the head unit and it’s looking for a phone.....

Hello tried that this morning, not sure if I got round to the ignition within the 5 secs though, the wife has just got back from shopping so I'll get her to switch on ign while I disconnect bridge within the time frame, can only try, but if you do find the procedure please do put it on the post, be very much appreciated, just going outside to try, will let you know what happens....if anything that is. Thank you
Tommo

That shows everything as it’s the ULF Owners Manual.

Should be ok now....

Think you might have been replying to me as I posted the manual.

Just follow the procedure on page 8.

Hello MJ, Success to a degree, followed the pairing process you posted for me, thank you, it paired, now its saying it cannot connect, think I will try the pairing process again in a little while (when it gets a bit cooler outside), although there are some phone numbers coming up on the head unit screen, but I don't recognise them, when a phone number appears on the dash display & I scroll forward, it say phone book empty. At least we know its working to a degree, hopefully a little bit of fine tuning is all that's required, once again thanks for your help, will keep you posted.
Regards
Tom

You are welcome mate.

Not sure if it gets phone numbers from the SIM or the phone, if it’s an older phone and you can save in both places?

I’ve no idea now, as it could be down to your phone and actual version of Bluetooth used.

I used to get text messages on the screen, then that stopped with a later phone.

I assume you can ring out and folk can ring you.....

Hello MJ, re-paired the phone, that's ok now, but still getting the old stored numbers coming up, manually inputted wife's number & it rang out ok, but she couldn't hear me, I could hear her plain as day, so I will look in centre console to see if mic is connected there, I know its connected in the overhead light binicle as I bought a microphone & fitted it(the right way round) My phone is a Samsung A8 2018 model. But tomorrow is another day, as least some progress made today, which I'm please about, thanks for all your help.
Regards
Tommo

Tommo

When I did this -- following MJD instructions from the forum (and others) I had microphone problems -- I ended up reversing the pins for screen and -ve on the ULF connector, some say it needs to be done, others don't!

Hope that helps a bit! Current: 2011 FFRR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
