its an odd one - going in on Monday to be checked out but curiosity got the better of me..

Vibration worse 50+ and doesn’t go away, no matter the speed. I can feel it through the floor, seat and a bit through the wheel. It’s been slowly getting worse since it had a CV joint done at Keith Gott. I can now very faintly hear a soft rumble.

Any obvious clues? 10 points to the person who guesses correctly. Will report back once fixed.

Separately, the ride is really not good on bumpy roads - sometimes it feels like my old M3 with the edc on sport. 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

Look at the heat shield for the rear prop/exhaust/fuel tank?
Cannot recall completely which part it shields?

However, previous user had got a lump of beech tree wedged up the one on my previous L322, this had folded part of it and was rubbing on the rear propshaft near the rear diff.

Made an odd vibration/noise, like a wheel bearing running rough.

Straightened out and reinforced repair patch fitted and noise gone!

Hopefully something simple like this?

Did the issue start after they changed the CV joint?

If so, then it may be a problem with the new joint.

They actually changed the gaitor not the joint.

May have imagined it but when turning right on the brow of a hill I’m sure I felt a juddering / skipping

Just to eliminate the CV joint - have you checked the gaitor is secure and properly fitted - if not, the grease will have come out and the joint may be getting damaged. I assume you had the gaitor replaced because it was split?

Another thing to check - open the drivers window and listen on a hard right turn from a stop with some power applied - any clicking noises from the front?

Update from Gott: wheel balancing. Must have been way out... getting the box, diffs and tbox fluids done while it’s there. And the battery coded and denso start motor fitted. And side bars removed 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

Does it change if you steer left / right, if so look at wheel bearings, if it remains the same have a look at propshaft centre bearing. The centre bearing on mine started to fail, the first sign was a gentle ticking noise when slowing down, it started at around 30 mph, over the next 1000 miles it developed into a rumble from 50mph upwards and then got much, much worse. I had a new propshaft fitted by Green Oval and everything was good once again. BMW i3 Electric Car

Got the car back - gearbox much smoother and car driving well

But not happy. Bastard vibration still there. They said it had been test driven twice before and after the wheel balancing and it was gone - it bloody well isn’t. Its so obvious through the floor and seats that once home this morning I could still feel it in my legs. Makes me question whether they drove it further than down the road and back, despite the paperwork showing “test for vibration 50-70mpg”

Been back to Keith Gott who still can’t replicate it, and I can’t take the technician out due to distancing.

Can’t believe they can’t replicate it, it’s effing awful. They have said there is no play in anything underneath which points to the new tyres/brakes?

Their loaner D3 had exactly the same issue so they’re going to take it out and check 1995 4.6 v8, green/tan (long gone)

Not sure what tyres you're running but could be a tyre starting to give way.......only a thought. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!
