Ahem, i think you'll find they were designed to have the oil drained from below when they were fitted to some Americans truck! They were never designed to drop the oil in a JLR product! Ner Ner

The presence of a a sump plug has nothing to do with the fact it was earmarked for the F150.

The Land Rover service manual even states that draining via the sump is a valid method.

The engine is designed to have the oil drained via either methods, irrespective of what vehicle the engine is fitted into.

Likewise, the Ingenium engines, used exclusively in JLR vehicles have both a sump plug and oil suction tube. They are designed for both. Kev

Besides how else would you know the sump guard can come off. I swear it would've tested an Angel! Call me old fashioned but don't feel I know a motor until I've dropped the oil and had a look under her skirtšŸ˜Œ Help got CAR OWNER VIRUS!

Had the sump guard off mine. It came off Ok.

But for a service I would just suck it out. Very little more will drain down once itā€™s sucked out. Even if there is 1/8 litre it should make very little difference given that you are putting around 9 1/2 litres in.... about 1 1/2% old oil in 98.5% new oil.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammeršŸ˜œšŸ˜œ

To be fair, JLR made/installed the service tube to suck the oil out... They were never designed to drop the oil out from below... Thumbs Up

It's worth mentioning that in marine engines, the oil is always sucked out because there is no way to drop it out from below. It is a safe enough method of changing the oil.

Not quite true. My 3.0 Mercrusier had a rubber pipe attached to the drain plug. The pipe would reach through the bilge drain plug and the sump could be emptied via the tube. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged
