Hi Paul. I'm always interested to know why people try to do a particular repair on their car. Why do you think there is something wrong with the egr? Any symptoms can help others sort there's out if you sort yours. Or am I being nosey. Lol.

Removing the EGR valve requires the oil cooler and filter housing to be removed, which once removed exposes unfiltered oil-ways. If any foreign material gets into those unfiltered oil-ways then the engine is at risk of being destroyed, so I suggest that you don't undertake the task of removing the oil cooler and EGR valve without good reason.

Thank You for the questions regarding the egr issue . I was just wanting to know how to get to the egr valve to see if it was clogged if all else failed . I get restricted performance at completely random times usually when started when hot , never from cold only after being left for a while when out somewhere .
P0486 egr circuit b high is what I have and the usual p0404 exhaust temp a which I've had for 2 years without issue .

I had a local indie have a look without success , so it's going to have to go to my local JLR to sort out unless I can do something .

Dolphinboy has helped with some suggestions , I have always maintained my car's in the past , this one is a lot of engineering but still a car just bigger Laughing

Have you done a HIGH pressure smoke test? That will highlight any leaks. My Pax side inlet manifold had a tiny crack that only became visible with the Hi pressure test. Also as your engine warms up, any tears/cracks/holes will expand making the RP more likely to occur.

9 of 10 times restricted performance on the 4.4TDV8 is caused by air system leaks.

Many many say they have checked but so many times those threads end with a leak eventually found and a happy outcome.

Unless that error code comes along exactly with restricted (you didn't say) I would be looking at the four donut hoses (sometimes splits are underside or within the clip area so you do have to check really well.

Next is the hose (and clip) that connects to the throttle body.

CSOV value too.

You will find loads on all the above using search.

If it's your EGR then do let us know, it is not common for faults there.

Good luck.

 Cheers, Greg

You could try unplugging the connector on the EGR valve to see if the same code appears and refitting the connector may overcome a possible poor connection. However as EGR doesn't occur when the engine is cold it does seem that the valve may be sticky.
The valve's actuator can be removed from the body of the valve but perhaps this has other ramifications making such a task inappropriate whilst the valve is still fitted to the engine.

Paul, what was the outcome of this? Did you end up doing further troubleshooting or did it sort itself out?
I’m getting an EGR fault code but mine’s for EGR recirculation flow insufficient so am working on the assumption there’s either a blockage or the actuator is a little sticky. Would be great to get an update on your issue! 👍 Andy
