Connecting a battery charger

Hi guys,

I want to connect my CTEK MXS 5.0 Fully Automatic Battery Charger to our Vogue SE, but given the battery nightmare stories I have read on the forum, I thought to just ask the question....is it okay to do so like I have on all our other cars in the past.

I usually hardwire in the standard CTEK quick connection then once a month plug the charger in and optimise the battery.

Cheers.

Not a problem, just connect it to the positive and negative post under the hood and you are good to go.
I charge mine up every four weeks as I do a lot of shot trips.

I thought it was good practice to use an earth point on chassis and not direct to the -ve post? I'm sure I've read that on here a few times ??? 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

The workshop manual says the posts under the bonnet.

I’ve hardwired a CTEK connector to mine - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic48040...p;start=15

DrRob - the negative terminals thing is best practice for the final connection when connecting straight to a battery - the logic is that a dodgy battery may be leaking and giving off gas. The very last connection, which should be negative to the car with the duff battery, may spark - so it’s safer to use an earth point. Clearly doesn’t apply when using the under bonnet posts - the negative one is effectively a chassis earth point anyway Thumbs Up

I’ve connected mine directly to the battery under the spare wheel for years and with several FF’s without any issue. MY23 D350 HSE

A Ctek 5 amp charger will have to work hard , the 10 amp would be better . Even the 10 amp has to left for 48 hours before it shows fully charged .

Like Dr Rob I bought an adaptor from the forum shop and charged through the towing electrics, all fine and easy to do. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Unfortunately with He deployable tow ball, the electrics are not accessible when it’s stowed.

Might need to invest in a new one....had my original one for a few years now and has been perfect for our normal car batteries

My 5 has been fine - but I only ever really use it as a maintenance charger and not to revive a dead battery.

Recently bought one of these. For the cost, £38. I'm very happy with it. Will recharge batteries of everything from motorbikes, cars and 4x4s. https://www.ringautomotive.com/en/product/RSC806

Chaps, has anyone come up with a genius solution to attaching the CTEK connector to the remote battery posts?
