Is there a way to have CarPlay without a cable in a 2020 RR?

I’ve just bought a 2020 long wheelbase autobiography and was wondering if there is a way to connect my iPhone to the infotainment system and have the CarPlay working without having to plug the phone into the USB with a cable. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not yet. https://carplay2air.com/ are promising a compatible firmware for months now, but it's still not out...
I think it's because the JLR software is written in-house and not widespread... 2019 Vogue P400e

It works fine with other brands, like Ford, BMW or Mercedes. My son has one that he uses in his Ford Focus. So every month or so when I ask them, they tell me that the next firmware will be compatible, so no, not yet with Land Rover... 2019 Vogue P400e

I contacted Carlinkit who offers another version of the wireless hardware. They weren't sure they would be offering it the the JLR systems... But I live in hope... SDV8 AB MY 2020

I just ordered CARPLAY2air so we’ll see how it goes.

I received an email update earlier today that says they now support JLR:
“ We're happy to let you know that we are supporting Land Rover/Range Rover and Jaguar 2019-2020 now! Smile

As long as your car has factory-installed* Apple Carplay and a standard USB port, it will now work with our adapter. 👍🏼

*Apple-Carplay installed from the factory or upgraded through your dealer”

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. Today, when connecting to a Ford (where it works) and looking for an update it shows "no update available". The Carplay2air is at ver. 2020.08.04.1602 and it doesn't work with my wife's I-pace... I emailed the company and will get back with an answer if they reply... 2019 Vogue P400e

I received a response from Carplay2air with the instructions for the update, a howto video and the update file ver. 2020.10.28.1251. After updating in the house (and not in a car), I can confirm it works with my wife's 2020 Jaguar i-pace so probably with the FFRR too. I cannot verify in my car as I don't have CarPlay yet.

I will try to post all relevant files.

Here are the complete upgrade instructions:

Please update via a USB flash drive.
Make sure to save the new firmware directly to the USB flash drive.
Here's the video guide: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1akjOcSqQE...sp=sharing

Update instructions:
1.Please download the firmware update file to the USB flash drive.
2.Plug the flash drive into the CPLAY2air adapter.
3.Plug CPLAY2air to USB power charger/wall charger for your iPhone. Please don’t use the USB port of the car or of a computer!!!
4.Wait for 2-3 minutes, until the red LED and the blue LED will light up at the same time.
5.Unplug the adapter from the USB charger and remove the USB flash drive from the adapter.
6.Now plug the product into the USB port of the car.
7.Wait until the new window will appear on the vehicle's screen.
8.Connect your phone to the WIFI SSID network which is shown on the screen.
9.Once connected, use the camera app to scan the QR code on the screen or input 192.168.50.2 on your phone browser.
10.Once the software is activated, please click the button "Reboot"
11.Wait for the new interface to appear on the screen.

As I had an older adapter, after the update I just plugged it in the car and it worked. 2019 Vogue P400e

It works, so far...

I plugged it in, selected always launch w/carplay, connected via bluetooth (the device name was "VOLK-something," not "LAND-something" as displayed on the screen), and accepted the CarPlay connection on my phone (iPhone 12 pro w/iOS 14.2). It launched CarPlay and started playing a podcast.

I really haven't tested it much but the display resolution might be a bit lower than over lightning; an issue I do not recall having with OEM wireless CarPlay.

The CARPLAY2air I received today did not require an update and worked right out of the box. No updates were available via its web portal there is an unmarked white button that, when tapped, brings up a few options for audio quality and audio delay.

2020.11.11 - I noticed last night that the version on the carplay2air adapter was older (2020.09) than the one linked to in an earlier post (2020.10.28 ). I planned to perform the manual update this morning but that same version actually showed up as available through the web portal (192.168.50.2). After the update, the device seems quite responsive and the display quality is excellent. It also connects significantly faster than fumbling with the wired connection. Now if only InControl worked this well...it irks me that a rental 2020 Velar had a much more responsive InControl system. Our 2020 RR Auto takes 15-20 seconds just to load a settings screen.
