Replacement Air Struts

Hi all,
So I was out with the car (07 4.2 SC) investigating my annoying water leak, will post a different thread on that, and had the car parked in off road height to check the aircon drains (with a jack in case the car did anything silly). Popped back into the house for a tea and locked the car up.
Came out to the alarm going off and as I got closer I could hear hissing from the front driver side air bag and slowly watched it deflate. Big Cry

Its now parked up slammed on the floor like I have just had my ride pimped by Xzibit.
So a few things I want to check before ordering replacements, after much reading on this forum!

1 - Is it OK for the car to sit on the floor whilst I get the parts sorted, i.e. this wont damage the rears?

2 - I am going to replace both front struts for ease, is the following a pretty complete list of parts (assuming no issues outside the strut itself)
- LR032563 L322 Right Front OEM Shock Absorber RNB501520 x1
- LR032570 L322 Left Front OEM Shock Absorber RNB501530 x1
- KYG000031 M16 X 65MM BOLT HUB CARRIER MOUNT (2 PER SIDE) x 4
- KYH000051 Nut M16 x4
- AirStrut Spring Gasket Front (Genuine) RYF000141 x2
- Plastic clip that always breaks - did find a thread on this and will look again before ordering

3 - Whilst not wanting to talk specifically around pricing (due to site vendors) the cost of the struts is quite different say looking at Advanced Factors and Island 4x4. I can only find good reviews for both on the forum itself so any reason to pay the higher price?

4- I assume these are the original struts:

Many thanks for any and all help

1. No, shouldn't be a problem just obviously don't drive anywhere like it.

2. Yes, should really replace both struts as a pair as they contain the dampers and wouldn't suggest to have say one new damper with zero miles wear on it and the other unchanged with 100k miles for example. There are times where you might only change one, say if the other is relatively new too or adaptive damping regulates them (depending on how it works).
Can't remember if I used new nuts and bolts, depends on what tools you have available for removal, mine came off and out fairly easily with an Impact gun and they were on the vehicle from new and over 12 years old.

3. I've always used Island 4x4 for parts and they've always been good OEM parts with low prices, OEM struts I bought from them quite a few years back were Delphi, the same as originals.
I can't comment on other places other than the Advance Factor web picture shows OEM as a BWI manufacturer. A little more digging and BWI is BeijingWestIndustries which acquired Delphi's chassis division in 2009. So it could be Delphi are in fact now sold as BWI and are the new equivalent OEM. I wouldn't buy anything else other than these two, others are known to fail prematurely, if OEM Delphi/BWI can last over 10 years and 100k miles then that's good enough for me.

When I had my TD6 I purchased 2 Delphi units from island 4x4. Had no issues.

LR used Delphi, NOT Dunlop. Your photo tells you so.

Use Delphi/BWI.... .

As Joe90 says, OEM airbags are Delphi not Dunlop. People who got Dunlop airbags have had problems with them in the past.
I got OEM Delphi bags from Island 4x4 when the old ones went on my old TD6, easy(ish) to replace.

Thanks for the info all.

Placed the order for the parts along with a few other niggling bits like bonnet and tailgate struts that are on their way out so hopefully none of the bolts will give me issues. Will get the +gas on them asap Smile

For reference as Island 4x4 don't state it on the product page I could see they did confirm that "We only sell the Genuine OEM struts made by BWI." so that's good news Thumbs Up

Will follow up in my "My Range Rover" thread to hopefully the good news of fixing it. Now it feels like proper RR ownership Laughing 07 4.2 Supercharged

I've been out for a couple of days so too late, but my minor write up of doing the same job on a 2011 vehicle with adaptive dynamics was here: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic54196.html . Hopefully you did find the little plastic clips in time!

I soaked my fixings in penetrating oil for a few days in advance of doing the job, and thankfully had no majors issues using a big enough breaker bar, everything came out nicely. I did order the new knuckle bolts/nuts at the same time just in case as they weren't that expensive, and whilst all mine ended up coming out clean, I was a bit happier knowing it was all new and hopefully good for another 10 years!
