Head light removal on L322 2012 4.4 td

Has anyone removed the front light assy to change bulbs. i removed the grill and three bolts that I could see but it would not lift out? No room in the engine bay so it has to be removed somehow. Must be missing something so anyone actually done this. Bow down Bow down

Many thanks Stan and PJ for the posts. With my MOT due shortly I checked that all lights were working today. However I took the view that there would not be enough space to withdraw the Xenon unit and bulb. This led to my attempt to remove the whole unit should I need to change bulbs. Great news if the is enough room withdraw them. Youtube covers the sport models which looks to be easy and I didn't fancy taken out the air filter cases.

Maybe just a bad day!

Thanks both

Dave

So not sure whats in front of them in an L322 from memory but the L405 has an air-box (either side in my car) and you just have 6 screws, then loosen the jubilee clip and it pops out with a bit of mild brute force away from the wing.......deffo a lot easier when I did it this time than squeezing my hand into a ridiculous small space with a HID bulb! all smug in my new plug!

I’ll take another look tomorrow at the filter areas. as I did think I might just damage a good xenon trying to remove one. Good to be prepared when the time comes.
Thanks for the update.

This one shows taking the airboxes out from the wing better.....didn't think it would be identical for a Sport but it is.

Well took another look at the L322 light ass'y / Filters. Changing the Xenon bulb looks impossible but Stan is absolutely ring! i imagined a bulb of greater length than it is!! It came and went back in without a problem with careful handling. So its thanks to everyone - knowledge is a wonderful thing.

Glad members have it.

Add on:

Dare I ask, is the main beam bulb H7 removal straight forward as room to get one out but not enough to be able to see how it is held in? Not on a pod in the 2012 Westminster, I imagined a replacement with that wouldn't present a problem but i cannot feel any springs to pinch.

Any help appreciated.

Dave

Easier than removing the bumper to remove the headlight assemblies!

I think it must be without doubt but will it come straight out or need a twist etc.? Will need to change filters in a month so maybe get a look in at that point.

I have a habit of breaking things unless I know what I'm doing.

Thanks again for your help Stan. I will probably bring forward the filter change which is nearly due and take another look when the cover and pipes are removed. You never know when a bulb will go and who needs a panic when it does. Nice to be prepared.

Thanks
Dave

On the L405 theres a little "lever" at the side of the bulb and as stan says you dont twist the bulb but you just firmly push the lever tab (clockwise from memory) and they then come out easily. if you don't do the slide of the clip as such then they wont come out.

Mine was a bit sticky one side and loose the other. all smug in my new plug!
