United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Bournville
Looking to buy

Hi guys, looking to get a Range Rover at last, always wanted one so now or never. I'm looking at a 2009 3.6TDV8, 83,000 miles, full service history. In very good condition in and out, never abused and no tow bar ever fitted. Reading a few posts there are a few warnings, mainly about turbo failure. I've seen its needs a body off fix costing £3,500, that looks horrific 🤣 How are costs at independant garages, I have a Jag XJ and local Indy is very reasonable. Anyone know best Indy near to Worcester?
Cheers

All track 4x4 in Malvern.
For any 3.6 the best advice is blank EGRs with a £40 kit off ebay and then if you get an engine management light (EML) have it digitally removed by www.updatesbybodsy.co.uk 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks for response Dr Rob. Is blanking the EGR to stop the water/oil ingress I've read about or something else. Are there any implications in just blanking them off?

Are you looking at the Sport or the L322 FF?

L322 is monocoque, so I guess it’s the Sport you have seen with the body-on-frame design.

It also doesn’t need to be a body-off job, from what I’ve read. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Hi Tommy, no it's not a sport it's a ff Range Rover. I thought the Sport is the one you need the body off to get at the turbo, is the Ff one the same? Is £3,500 a realistic replacement figure?

Sport has a separate chassis and the body can come off leaving a rolling chassis to work on with better access.

L322 has a monocoque with front and rear subframes. So body can’t come off. Can drop the engine but turbos can be done in situe with some removal of some parts. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If it’s exactly what you are after, and all’s well, could be the car of your dreams.

If not, with prices as they are now, I’d be going the extra mile and getting a 4.4..... even one with higher miles

Just my 2p....

+1 forget the 3.6 - just go for the 4.4 - more power, more economy, better dash, plus it’s got a far better 8 speed gearbox and even though you may pay a little more - it is always still worth more 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Thanks, can't see a 4.4 with reasonable mileage that I want to go to in money terms. This one has the digital dash etc, will see how it drives but will have another look at the 4.4, I understand it does have advantages over the 3.6.

Like none of the turbo issues..... without the other advantages.

That alone was enough for me. I know plenty of folk never had an issue, I just didn’t need the worry....

Generally, if a turbo goes on a 3.6, mostly without warning, it takes the engine with it. The biggest issue on the 4.4 is the oil cooler leaking.

Yes I see the 4.4 is the better option all round. Will have a look round and see if I can locate one.

I had the secondary turbo on my 4.4 replaced as it was leaking oil. No engine is infallible. Proven service history, receipts, current condition are all important but 100% be prepared to spend and have a contingency fund.
