Hi baisong, the filter for the Dynamic Response system is now built in to the reservoir, unlike on the earlier Land Rover systems where the filter was built into the valve block under the vehicle.

So, that's why the service sheets specify to replace the reservoir every 80k miles or 5 years. That's why I replaced it, as per my first post in this thread. It's easy enough to replace, just a few hoses to unclip and a couple of screws to undo.

The fuel filter on a UK spec (RHD) V8 diesel is located on the passenger side, in the engine bay, just below the windscreen and is replaced every 2 years or 32k miles. As for the US spec V8 petrol/gas, I'm not sure but it'll be documented in the service manual, which you can download from the wiki... Kev

May I ask why you changed Dynamic response reservoir? Is the Dynamic response filter in there? Thanks

As we know, due to the majority of fluid residing in the torque converter, only a limited amount of fluid can be drained from the drain hole. In my case, bang on 3 litres.

I ended up draining and refilling the gearbox 4 times. Priming the gearbox in between each fill by:
- Starting the engine and holding my foot on the brake
- Shifting to reverse and holding for 5 to 10 seconds
- Shifting to drive and holding for 5 to 10 seconds
- Shifting to 2nd using the paddle shifter and holding for 5 to 10 seconds
- Shifting to neutral, then releasing the brake and holding the revs at 2000rpm for at least 30 seconds to fully fill the torque converter

Fresh oil is shown at the top. First drain is on the left and fourth drain is on the right. Obviously the oil in the gearbox now will be a shade lighter than the one shown on the right.



I could have done a few more drain and refill cycles because I have about 8 litres of clean fluid left. However, I got a bit too wet in the rain and thought I'd save the fluid for a refresh next summer, when it's a little warmer outside. Very Happy

Hopefully that should keep the gearbox in good nick for a while Thumbs Up


I'm guessing you don't have the ZF 8 speeder then? That oil is about 40 quid a litre.

Yes, I the 8 speed ZF is the only gearbox available for the L405.

ZF Lifeguard fluid is expensive, but isn't the only fluid you can use. There are many manufacturers that manufacture the fluid to the specification, just like engine oil. Kev

That is worth knowing.

I've just ordered a ZF refresh kit, the sump and 7 litres of oil. Came to £145.

That oil looks much better value though.
