Reduced Engine Performance...AGAIN!!!

Where do I start. Fom previous posts some of you may already know my issues with this heap of Censored Now I have owned one of these 4.2 SC before so know what good looks like. That car apart from service parts and coil packs was a dream....this one however!!!!!

So to summarise. Bought about 8 weeks ago (seller knew it was a lemon and had more issues than listed, I knew it would be a lemon and have more issues than listed) and have replaced:

spark plugs Twice
Fuel Pump
Injectors
Exhaust system
Engine pressure tested etc

the seller said it needed new exhaust and would go in to Low/reduced performance mode. he was right on that one. I drove it home over 120 miles and it didn't do it once. then now and then it would do it but as I had other larger issues I didn't want to thrash her.

Now with the new exhaust on the car that was to get rid of the reduced Power mode and warnings and all the other engine warning lights of misfires etc.

the battery I think is knackered. I have charged it nearly every day and did a full charge yesterday then went to start the car today and it just fired up. Took it for a 2 hour drive and was OK until I mashed the pedal to the floor to hear the new exhaust notes and to see if the power was there from the engine and supercharger and.......REDUCED POWER MODE kicked in.

Pulled over turned it off let it reset and turned back on and the car was back to full well whatever power it has. Carried on driving but cautious not over 50 mph. Smooth enough. Got to some lights and wanted to see if it was just a one-off and pulled away....then REDUCED POWER MODE kicked in again. I limped home.

Now my questions are:

Is it the SUPERCHARGER
Is it the COIL PACKS
Is it the MAF (I have cleaned this and the airfilter recently and replaced filter)
Is it SOMETHING else

So far the car and all the work has cost me £6600 verging on the price I would have paid if I bought a good one. Although I am happy to spend the money on it I don't want to be turning it in to a 9k bin.

Do you think where the battery is playing up that might be the issue or would the battery not really impact this too much. I have read loads of options which did include a dud battery. Thoughts and pointers always appreciated. If it is the SC does anyone have one or know where I can get one. I did read a post (might be America only) but the wiring on the SC was done back to front on some SC cars could it be this?

Car has done 146k so would have thought these issues would have been spotted earlier. Maybe it is time for a new SC at 146k?

Are the coolant pumps common to go? Are they easy to source? I do have a whirring noise from passenger side inside the engine bay sounds like a bearing type noise, not a screeching or wobbling as such just like a rush or whooshing sound.

A mechanic who looked at my car regarding sparks etc did say the supercharger is a bit noisy.... so you could be right. Current Cars

2007 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Stornoway Grey

Got mine from amazon for about 100 quid, mine started to go at about 90k miles, it had been turning the wrong way most of its life, became apparent when booting it from 70mph to 80 or 90mph.

Mine had quite rumbly bearings which wasn't apparent until the pump was removed...

If she's going into limp mode then hopefully a code has been stored in the car?
A decent Indy with a decent scanner should be able to retrieve that code for you.
On the diesels, limp mode after booting it normally points to intake hoses or the like, but on a petrol I'm a little in the dark, sorry. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I feel for you mate. I had a Ford Explorer that did similar things and it turned out to be a dirty connector on the crankshaft position sensor.

have you had the car scanned for codes?
currently we are playing a guessing game with out them.

But we all know they are very fussy on batteries so i would have yours checked sounds like it is not up to scratch so before you waste time any place else start there. check battery condition and check it is charging properly.
if the battery is poor then get a new one, clear all codes and start again. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

At that price I will look in to it and tick it off the list of things done. its all a guessing game at the moment. Could be a hose or something small or something major I just don't know....main dealer perhaps!!!

I have plugged it in.....it now comes up with sensor on bank one voltage low but I had the whole exhaust changed last Friday. i did this to eliminate the cats being the issue. It has fixed some of it but clearly not the root cause. I might bite the bullet take it main dealer and let them charge me £150 to plug in and tell me what I already know.

This is my point. I have ticked off major things and issue is still there. It will turn out to be a £30 hose but will end up costing me 3k to find this out. even going to a garage they say one thing then you do it and then it does not fix it. I was told it was a fuel pump then 95% it was the injectors.....neither have fixed it more has the new exhaust.

Could be a case of swapping the wires over on the coolant pump. (Got the right car this time Stan)! Previous cars:

hi mate

So I went to go out earlier and even though the car had been driven it struggled to start. It did start but struggled so I went and bought a new battery. I asked the guy what voltage it should be once in the car he said around 13-14v.... my old one was saying that on the screen but not starting. Took battery out and it showed the green dot for a good battery.....

Put new one in took it for a drive. Started every time as it should. I risked booting it only up to 70 mph and it did not go in to reduced power or any faults.....now I am not going to say it has fixed it but it seems to hopefully have done something. I will give it another drive tomorrow for an hour or so and see the outcome. i still think I have to sort the SC sooner rather than later.

Had a vacuum test done and was told no leaks. I have totrust what I am told on that one but you could still be right.

I have changed my battery for a 100ah 19. Pics of the battery taken off. Looks a bit messy on top not sure what that is but wiped away. Did a voltage test and hot 12.5v so seems that k to hold acharge. It is on charge and will leave it on for 24 hours do a boltsge test then leave it another 24 hours see if it has lost any voltage not connected to anything.

New battery on the car I will hope and pray it 1holds its charge and 2 it starts. Have a4 year warranty on the battery.

If it does not start tomorrow Ihave a serious power drain when the car is off!!!

The quality of the battery is key on L322 Range Rovers. Low voltage results in all manner of errors being thrown, that indicate other issues, when it is the battery that is the root cause.

The batteries were never an issue on my series II and series II Range Rovers.

Bothe of my Series III L322s, a 2010 3.6 TDV8 and my current 2012 4.4 TDV8 both threw various faults due to poor batteries. Once the batteries were replaced, the issues were resolved without further work. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current
