I’m intrigued to see how you get on with this as I’ve just bought a 2007 Supercharged that’s got a misfire on it.

Thanks to Nicola shutting the borders I didn’t fancy the risk of trailering it home myself so I’m paying to have it delivered. It should be here on Sunday.

My initial thoughts are to read the fault codes and find out which cylinder it’s got a misfire on (have been told it’s only missing on one).

I’ll clear all of the codes and take it for a run and revisit the codes. I’ve bought a set of plugs for it as I don’t know if they’ve ever been changed so will change them and take it for another run. I’ll do a compression test whilst the plugs are out and make sure there’s no scary numbers.

If the compression test is ok, I’ll fit the new plugs and take it for a run, if the fault code comes back on the same cylinder I’ll swap the coils between a couple of cylinders, clear the codes and take it for another run and go from there.

If I were you, I’d clear all of your codes, take it for another run, try and provoke the restricted performance error message on it and then read the codes again. You need to make sure you know what you’re dealing with.

The codes have been concistent throughout

Missfire 1,3,5,7 cylinder
O2 sensor bank voltage low

The car idles rough and then smooths out. I have blasted it no issues then driven slowly on other occasions and it goes in to reduced performance

I have a new exhaust system, plugs, battery, fuel pump and had it compression tested.

Yesterday the curry didnt areive correctly so rushed out the house to another take away to pick up missing bits. Cold weather not been driven for 3 days. Jumped in drove off and the car was rough as in it was about to choke. It stumbled to the take away. It went in to reduced performance. I managed to get back curry ate and a few extra beers.

I have 4 coil packs to put on. Its my last option before I take it to a main dealer for them to empty my bank account.

It is very cold at the moment and dont wish to open a can of worms and then not be able to put it back again. I know an easy job but I am bound to fudge it up!!! Current Cars

No not yet. With the new exhaust syatem I am not sure if the sensors were re-employed or removed totally. The problem was before the new exhaust. The cats were 100% shot so it did need the new system. It will be something I will take a look at after I have done the coil packs.

If you plug in a decent diagnostics tool you should see the voltage of the O2 sensors jumping up and down proving they are working. If they're not working properly then the car will run like crap.

When they run lean they run hot so it's also possible that is the reason of the cats failing previously.

I'd be checking the sensors on diagnostics and if they're not working, checking the wiring back to the ECU. If that checks out, replace the O2 sensors. It could be something as simple as that. Replacing the O2 sensors will cost you an hours labour at the main dealer so probably worth trying before it goes in!

I will have a look at that. My mechanic plugged it in didnt charge me. Gave me the same as my ODB.

The o2 sensor did go on my previous Supercharger. As you say not an expensive or time consuming. It will be donething simple as you say.

Would the o2 cause the missfires in 1,3,5,7? Current Cars

It'll be the same O2 sensor that's controlling that bank of cylinders so it's possible but I'm not confident enough to say either way.

Get yourself a Gap IID Tool. You can monitor things in real time using your smart phone as a display. Ours is one of the best things I've bought. Not the cheapest tool out there but it's easy to use, the support is great and it'll pay dividends in the long run.

Not sure what part of Essex you're in, but I've heard very good recommendations about Dartford Transmissions.............in..............errrrr...........Dartford Very Happy Not sure how far this is from you?
Not used them myself but various people on here have, knows his stuff & probably a darned site cheaper than a MD.
Think the guy's name is Dave.

Yes Martin Hind (think that is correct) in Dartford. That would be the option. It will stillcost but maybe half the price. There is a recall on the car needing to be done so would probably take it to MD to get that done and ask them to do a plugin once over and give me the report then head off to Dartford. Think there is a place in Rainham Essex too which is where I am. Cheers for the tips and info.

I can vouch for dartford transmissions. Martin is very knowledgeable but also extremely fair. They have all the md tech and equipment so you'll be looked after. Mines showing the cams are over advanced by 1 degree. It's not using any extra fuel or anything but Martin diagnosed this and verified it with a load of advanced testing. He offered me two solutions, I can either have it all retimed, vanos doing etc or we can just map it out. Considering it's been like it for nearly 2 years now, I think I know what option to pick

Soo......

Swapped bank one coil packs for bank 2. Cleared for he errors and took the car for a drive.

Petrol in and on the ramp up to the A13. Floored it seemed pretty reaponsive. Went to slow down and......REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE error.

Pulled over plugged machine in. No error codes. Turned the engine off and then back on again. Carried on driving. Floored it seemed ok then REDUCED ENGINE PERFORMANCE error again.

So its not the coil packs.

I took some picks under the engine bay. Does it look from the image OK. Hard to tell if any hoses are missing. Maybe one on the upper part. Thoughts??

Might just take it in. Spending a lit of time and money fault finding and not actually finding the fault.

Did have some other coil packs but they didnt seem the same so didnt try them. Also a new error code was thrown up during the change but has gone now. And the silver hole tube thing should that be like that pr have a hose attached

Tbh that scanner won't give you all the faults mate so I'd say pop it over too Martin at dartford transmissions. I suspect he will come up with the fault pretty quickly. All I will say is he is very fair and honest with his prices and work.

I got to the end of my DIY on this. Think it is time for an expert not just a mechanic with a spanner.

I have had it plugged in to a proper machine. But maybe a specialist like Martin is best. Current Cars

Normally drive in but given the current circumstances I'd call him on Monday and ask when martin can do a diagnostic test on it just so that both parties can abide by the current guidelines. He ain't just a plug and play guy, he will do extra tests with a lot of hand tools, multi meters etc to find the fault with the car.
