It would only be black after 100 miles on a diesel, that oil is very dark imo for a petrol engined car after a relatively low mileage.... I'd expect the next change to be a lot clearer if its not I'd be a bit concerned...

I’d expect diesel oil to be black after 500 miles, petrol oil I’d expect to still be golden after 500 miles.

I’m going to check it again in about 500 miles and if it’s not golden then I’ll change it.

I wouldn't be too concerned - the block has essentially been open to the elements for a good while and with the changes in temperature and humidity there will be lots of little bits of corrosion forming - which the heat has lifted off the surface and dropped into the oil, the oil pump has then done a fine job of reducing it to sub-micron particles which are now attached to the oil molecules. It may take another oil & filter change to get it all out but if there's no significant silvery bits in the filter or drained oil (I'd expect some, TBH, given what you've replaced) on the next change, then it's nothing to worry about.

We made it 6 weeks without a fault which given the amount of work done and the amount of things taken apart and put back together again, I’m quite happy with!

Climbed in it today to go and fetch the other L322 from the detailer and the dashboard pinged with a message telling me to remove obstacles and reset height. Every time I tried the back didn’t move and the front went to extended height.

It’s sitting like this tonight.

The 4x4 Info screen shows the rear left sensor flashing with a red line and being out of sync.

There’s no faults logged on the ECU but the heights show the left hand rear as being way above the others height wise.

Going to get it back inside once I’ve finished tinkering with the P38 and check the connections to the height sensor but it looks like I’ve got a sensor that’s gone south.

At least it’s an easy enough fix.

Does the reading change at all? it may just be a seized / detached linkage.

I’ve not had a proper look at it tbh.

I’m not sure it’ll be seized as they were removed when the subframe was blasted, cleaned, lubricated and refitted.

Although it’s a Range Rover so nothing would surprise me.

The plug on the rear left height sensor was damaged when I went to unplug it and it was held together with a cable tie. I replaced the cable tie when I rebuilt it but hadn’t pulled the cable tie tight enough. I meant to try and get a plug and tails from a breaker so that I could repair it but forgot.

Anyway, I fixed this tonight Very Happy Squeezed the plug and it came back to life and levelled itself. Have pulled the zip tie tighter and will now look for a breaker to get a plug from.

I’m down to 1 VSE now and it’s doing great. I noticed that there was a bit of play in the steering on it in the summer and it annoyed me so I had the steering box rebuilt by a company in Birmingham. They rebuild them for Land Rover. I swapped that over and it was better but still not great so this weekend I replaced all the bushes on it too. I did the front and rear panhard rod and front radius arms with genuine Land Rover bushes. I didn’t do the rear radius arms as genuine ones aren’t available. I’ve just driven it out of the workshop tonight and it’s transformed the car. Thumbs Up

Bow down Bow down Bow down

Thanks Mikey! I’ll give Rob a shout and get him to order me one up. Wish I’d looked into it before refitting the subframe now. Laughing

Only because I forgot to look for the plug and tails from a breaker. Glad I did now as Mikey posted the part number above for the repair kit!
