Well, time for a few updates…

I decided that I’ve spent enough for now so rather then fitting a brand new Supercharger I’m going with the one I’ve rebuilt. It should be nice and quiet after being rebuilt.

So… Thursday saw the Supercharger reassembled.

First step was a bead of Loctite 518 applied around the casing before the rotor pack was installed. Once the rotor pack was installed another bead of Loctite 518 was applied around the top of the rotor back where the snout assembly seals. It was then reassembled and all of the bolts torqued down to 19nm.

I noticed when I was removing the LPG kit that whoever fitted it had reworked the air suspension compressor into a random metal box and it had just been thrown into the boot and surrounded by foam padding and the driers and valve blocks were just thrown in the spare wheel well.

As the LPG tank is being removed I decided I’d remove all the air suspension stuff and replace it properly.

I was going to buy an enclosure for the compressor and reassemble mine into it but Land Rover want nearly £900 for an empty enclosure so that was a non starter! So… after a trip to eBay and £160 later, this arrived after 24hrs.

So… me being me I couldn’t just fit it as it arrived - Could I?

Compressor internals were all removed from the frame. I noticed on the compressor there’s a date stamp of July 2020 so it’s been replaced fairly recently

That left me with the base place sitting on the toolbox.

I cleaned it and then set about bursting the rust bubbles with my Snap-On Polishing and prep tool.

I gave the base a coating of Hydrate 80. I did all around the seam on the base too and then turned my attention to the lid giving it the same treatment.

As I turned it round I saw a dent in the lid. It annoyed me more then it should have so I dealt with that. Filler and sanding were the order of the evening.

After.

I’ll give the Hydrate 80 24hrs to do it’s thing and will then give it a coat of Zinc primer to stop it rusting again and will then spray it with a matte black paint.

Like I said above though - this shouldn’t have annoyed me as much as it did seeing as it’ll be under the boot floor and underneath the spare wheel but at least it’ll be done right.

I’m going to do the boot floor properly with rust treatment and paint once the LPG tank is out before refitting the compressor as well.

Nothing much done tonight other then a couple of coats of zinc primer.

Few marks have appeared under the primer on the back half of this so will likely give it a gentle rub down and another coat tomorrow evening.

Hopefully give them a couple of coats of matte black tomorrow evening.

You saying how well yours drives at over 200k has been part of the reason for me to keep going with this one!

Injectors are boxed up and being sent away tomorrow for checking and refurbishing if necessary.

Seeing as I've removed the LPG I want to ensure that the petrol system is 110% before building it all back up as it's not something I want to be dismantling again!

Cams have arrived.

I then went out to the workshop and got one of the new heads off the shelf.

I swapped the buckets over from the old heads after giving them all a good clean and gave the bearings a good coat of assembly lube before installing the first cam.

The cam bearings were then torqued in sequence to 10nm (7lbft

I then dug the feeler gauges and started measuring the clearances and noting them down on a template I’d made and printed.

On cylinder 7 and 8 I could only get a 6 thou feeler gauge in when clearance should be between 9 and 10 thou so I’ve done the sums and worked out for those 2 cylinders I need a 3.070mm and 3.175mm bucket.

Will finish the rest of them tomorrow now
