Locking wheel nuts

Can anyone recommend a particular brand of locking wheel nut please? I bought some a year ago and the top chrome part of one of them has come away. I also need some stainless steel covered wheel nuts but there seems to be a vast difference between price and quality.

Bin the locking wheel nuts completely. I replaced all my wheel nuts with Bearmach ones. All but 3 where swollen.

Did mine with Brit part ones on the D4, same nut. From Lrdirect There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks guys. Feel more comfortable having locking wheel nuts to protect my bank busting new tyres though!! Will look at Bearmach ones and Lrdirect.

Just replaced my locking wheel nuts with normal ones today (Festive present to me). The "clever" part was starting to be not so clever that I could not get enough grip to torque on or off. Decided to swap out before one got stuck. .

You’ll feel much less comfortable when you come to remove a locking nut when they start to spin internally and you can’t get them off, usually to the side of the road, when you get a puncture and it’s tipping with rain but each to their own I guess Thumbs Up

A Trap 

Agreed, for an owner a stuck/broken/missing locking wheel nut (key) is a massive pain as you don’t want to mark or damage your wheels or make matters worse.

To a thief, they just smash on a suitable socket, don’t care about damage or marks and have the wheels off in a similar time as an owner who cares.

Locking wheel nuts are just a pain to the owner and workshops and are meaningless to a thief who wants your wheels or tyres. They literally give them no though, they come ready to smash them off so why make your cars ownership experience hard for the very, very slight chance of loosing your wheels. Most people have never had there wheels stolen and that has nothing to do with the locking wheel nuts.

I have to agree with the owners advising against the use of Range Rover L322 locking wheel nuts.

When I purchased my 2012 Vogue SE a year ago the wheel nuts were all swollen and the locking wheel nuts totally rusted.

During a trip to Portugal and back we had a rear wheel puncture at about 4.00 am in a tiny village miles from anywhere. Fortunately a local farmer assisted us in getting the swollen wheel nuts off - none the less it took over 4hours to remove the wheel. The locking wheel nuts were not a problem at that time.

Upon returning home I replaced all of the wheel nuts with solid stainless steel nuts as well as the locking wheel nuts with new ones purchased from eBay.

Whilst changing brake discs and pads a couple of months later, one of the new locking wheel nuts came apart without undue force being applied, resulting in the need to purchase a removal tool to get the remainder of the locking wheel nut off.

Since then I have binned the locking wheel nuts altogether and now have peace of mind that I can easily remove the wheels when necessary.

I am not at all concerned about the possible theft of the wheels. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

I agree. I spent long hours stuck in the bush, trying to chisel off a lock nut with a screwdriver and a rock from my Disco.
Any Land Rover/Range Rover locking wheel nut is going to cause you problems, so change them out now.
In fairness, the standard wheel nuts give you enough grief when they swell without adding in the locking nuts into the equation!!

I may be wrong but I think that the perception that wheels get regularly nicked is a motoring myth that can cause paranoia, I recently bought an old jag with shabby corroded alloys and old tyres. Previous owner had fitted 3 locking wheel nuts to each wheel, what a pain they were to sort out.
I'm interested - has anyone on here ever had their wheels pinched?

I binned lockers on Day 1. All were rusted and on the edge of failing...
Also, check the others regularly. I have 5 spare new ones in the garage as usually need to swap out 1 or 2 every few months.

I can't get a standard socket on them but a 12 point one works fine, but even that got stuck when I put new calipers on the other day. I've seen some solid stainless steel ones on tinternet but can't find them now!! 4434 Morrison, have you got the company name you had them from?

I just had a look for the ones I purchased back in October 2019 and again in August 2020 from a different seller - they are no longer available from either seller.
