Air leak after lifting Range Rover 2012 Westminster

RR up for mot in September so I thought I should attend to the couple of advisory items noted last year, surface rust on frame and on front brake pipes also slight play in btm suspension joint n/s/f. I decided to check all brake pipes whilst I was doing it, anyway the ones you could not see were in a terrible state so I replaced them all including flexible ones. When I lifted it on a two post lift there was a quick release of air from the o/s/f air bag just before the suspension was at maximum drop and it went flat. Anyway I completed the pipes lower joints and cleaned and treated the rust then painted the subframes etc.
When I returned it to the ground and built up the air in the suspension it was level and ok, but within an hour it was leaning to the o/s/f, it never did this before.
What did I do wrong and what is the solution? I can’t tell where the air is coming from because it leaks out so quickly, I have run the different suspension settings and it goes up and down no problem and no sign of a leak whilst it’s running.
I suppose I should not grumble because it’s the first time anything has gone wrong since owning it for the last 15 months, mind you I’ve done less than a thousand miles.

Probably haven't done anything wrong, mine did exactly the same, put it up on a hoist then heard the leaking air when I put it on the ground. Most likely just a 10 year old air bag giving up after being extended.

Had the same 2 days before setting off for France.

Just old bags - mine had a largeish hole in the fold which was only apparently when extended and crated gentle bubbles with the squirt test on normal height. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE - 'Black Betty'

Had same. Old bag, replaced with one from Advanced Factors. Just the bag Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks for the replies, I can see what you are all saying about 10 year old bag leaking. I will lift it up again and look for a split once it has deflated, with the o/s/f leaking would it make the o/s/r deflate also or should that stay inflated?, I did not think to mention that’s what was happening.

Looked at bag it’s got some small marks in it and a line of rust, from the btm seat I presume. Decided to change both fronts and shocks complete because previous owner replaced rears about 3 years ago due to shocks leaking.

A soap spray will confirm any leaks - or not. all you need is a hand spray bottle (an old cleaning product spray bottle is ideal) with some extra-foamy surfactant, I use the foamy car cleaner stuff but washing-up liquid will do, just use it at a higher concentration than my usual 10:1 with the high-foam stuff. Spray the airbag and leave for 5-10 mins, you'll see a cluster of bubbles if you have a leak.

Thanks, I took a photo of the btm of the air spring and it looks like the rubber has come away from the base so that’s where the leak must be.

Thanks I will do the soap test tomorrow to confirm where the leak is coming from, I have looked at the other side the base is the same if not worse with the rust the rears seem to have a nylon base hence no rust.

If you use washing up liquid then please make sure you rinse it all off afterwards....

Washing up liquid contains an awful lot of salt and our poor fatties get enough salt sprayed on them without doing it yourself... Thumbs Up

Also, as I have said a hundred times over the years...

When you service your car, or have it serviced, raise the suspension to off road height (extended height if you have the right model) and clean the airbags and their respective seats to get rid of the line of dirt that seems to turn to concrete and wears the bag on every bump...

This mess here....

Thanks I’ve just looked closely at the other side and whilst the air bag is still on it’s mounting a lot of bubbling of rust is evident. I presume I have the adaptive struts from this picture.
