Measuring cars current draw

Hi all.

Only had the car a couple of weeks and battery is a 2 year old YUASA 019.

Thing is the car starts absolutely fine but in a morning only has 11.8-11.9v which to my basic knowledge is a duff battery, after hours of driving its 12.2v max.
When engine is running getting between 14.5-14.9v so I assume the alternator is ok?

Before I jump in and replace I thought I’d try and see if the car was drawing any power which could have lead to the duff battery voltage.

Although my first time doing it, I left the car 20-30 mins with all doors closed and only the bonnet open.
I removed the negative terminal and put my multimeter on it, positive lead to the negative cable and negative lead to the battery negative terminal.
Multimeter was set on 5A and I initially got a couple of amps reading for 10-15 seconds and it slowly drained to 0.
I changed to mA on the meter and still O readings.
Car shows as having no drain whatsoever which I find strange as I believed it should be 20-30mA if all was correct.

Am I doing anything wrong or has anyone encountered this before? 2005 (55) Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE Java Black

I've got a meter like that... it was cheap and couldn't read much below 1/2 an amp... I bought a better one... Thumbs Up Pete

It is a Halfords small cheap one at around £8.
Never knew the cheap ones were like this so thanks. 👍🏻 2005 (55) Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE Java Black

Yeah I get what you mean, so I basically need to find someone with another to verify. 2005 (55) Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE Java Black

I'd be tempted to fully charge the battery overnight, measure its voltage after at least 30mins off charge, it should be 12.9volts ideally, 12.7 at a push...

If it's lower then change the battery, I would think any drain less than the amount your meter will pick up is OK... Thumbs Up Pete

That was my next plan.
I’ve only got the battery still in the car as I was trying to get a reading of the drain.
I wanted to check the drain and if it was minimal then put the battery on my smart charger to revive it.

Thanks. 2005 (55) Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE Java Black
