Restricted Performance Warning & DPF Full amber light

Hi folks
I'm new to the forum so firstly please excuse and forgive me if I am not 100% with the etiquette quite yet.
So I will just push on and see if if any fine people can help with the problem Very Happy

I have an intermittent problem with the Restricted Performance Warning light. However there seems to be no performance drop. I am thinking that I should start with replacing the 4 inlet hoses on the manifold ???
I have quickly inspected them and tbh can't see an obvious problem but they are the old type and the car is at 90K.
I haven't yet looked under the hose clamps

I have also been hit with the dreaded "DPF Full" amber warning light. In one respect it's not surprising as since Covid hit I have done very few miles and those have been short journeys when the V8 has barely got up to any sort of temperature. I have however managed to clear it previously with a quick blast up the motorway.

Unfortunately this week the amber DPF Full light has appeared 3 times. I have cleared it each time by 50-60 mile runs but it has reappeared the next day or two. I am just keeping the fingers crossed that it will disappear for a while now after the latest run Big Cry

I was wondering if the DPF sensor could be goosed? OR if the inlet hoses were cracked (or even the manifold itself) could that effect the DPF efficiency and clearance?

Maybe I should run it to a dealer for a smoke test before doing anything OR should I just change the inlet hoses firstly and see what happens???

TIA Thumbs Up

Firstly, welcome to the forum, you are amongst 4.4 tdV8 friends on here with plenty of experience between us.

My advice would start with recommending you to invest in a GAP iid tool.
It will save you hundreds in the long term and with a bit of help from the forum will point you towards most common faults.,

They appear in the for sale section occasionally, but sell very quickly, guaranteeing you a ready market should you ever sell your FFRR.

Thanks Mike
I will have a look around for a diagnostic tool.
I'm fortunate that a friend of mine can probably do the diagnostics but it seems that interpreting them can sometimes be the challenge Laughing Laughing

If you were hazarding a guess would you think I was on the right lines with replacing the 4 inlet hoses? It's not a huge expense and hence no problem at all if it doesn't cure the issue ..... I have uploaded a couple of photos and there doesn't seem to be a problem but then again I haven't yet looked under the clamps Big Cry
Cheers
Neil

Firstly, welcome.
It would be a good idea to stick the kettle on, find the voluminous thread that goes into microscopic detail regards the dpf system as Mike and a few others have taken their knowledge to the nth degree . The info here is second to none tbh. You're probably on the right track though Whistle

I usually recommend wiping around all the pipes with a clean white tissue / kitchen roll paper, looking for sooty oil leaks, but I have just seen your pictures and at first glance they look nice and dry, so next suspect would be the throttle body hose being loose.

100% recommend Henshall Engineering close to you. Old skool but they will find the issue quickly for you.
Family friend had a DPF issue. James Henshall fixed it first time. Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Thanks again Mike
I think you could be on to something here Very Happy
Throttle body hose looks very sooty and also a fair bit of play. I'm not sure if any play at all is acceptable tbh but I reckon I am getting about 3mm lateral movement and similar North to South Big Cry

What is the usual fix? New hose or just renew the circular clip?
Many thanks
Neil

Just pull out the wire clip and pull the hose off to wipe it clean, then bend the clip carefully to add more tension before re-fitting. Very common fault.

Thanks DrRob
I will look them up and give them a call if I can't solve it pretty quickly. Unfortunately I haven't got the time at the minute to run through all the possibilities so it looks likely I could be crying down the phone to them fairly soon Laughing
I hope that Mike has identified the problem though ..... fingers crossed Thumbs Up 2011 TDV8 4.4 Vogue SE

Get the IID tool, run a scan and report back. Everything else is a stab in the dark but likley short trips over a long time will generate a DPF full light. Needs long sustained 50mph + to initiate a DPF cleaning cycle rather than a short blast. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

UPDATE Very Happy
Removed throttle body hose and plastic retainer ..... cleaned it all up, including the sensor
Adjusted the circular clip to tighten the fit and reassembled.

Managed to get the fit a bit tighter but not sure whether it may loosen again in time ...... considered using an XL jubilee clip but have left it for now as haven't decided if it is feasible

Took the vehicle for a run ..... DPF amber light / Restricted Performance Warning light both gone out ..... So far so good! Very Happy

Will fill it with fuel tomorrow Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry and give it a motorway run to force a regen hopefully and give it a proper test,
Then it's off for a fault check. Yeah, I know it's a bit cart before horse Laughing
Thanks for all the help Thumbs Up
Neil
