What do you think about this 2012 Tdv8 Silver Packed

Hi,

I have spotted what I think it could be my car

It´s a 2012 Tdv8 with 220.000kms (137.000miles) one owner full service records and it looks new

now the bad thing

It seams that one injector did not work well and broke the cylinder block and instead off fitting new engine, the old one has been repaired

I have seen the bill and parts (apart from bolts, gaskets, etc) what the fit was a full 4.4 sort block (3.800# +VAT) refurbish turbos, repair cylinder head and valves, one new injector and the others where cleaned, change the service belt and all it´s tensors, etc. I´we seen that they have change the distribution tensiones but not the chain (at least it is not in the bill)

Do you think that it is worthy go for it? (the repair was 12.800€ including VAT

Thank you for all the advice

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Orkney Grey

Carlos; it's very difficult to say buy or not as it's in Spain & I'm not sure what the difference in value is in Spain as opposed to the UK. The car equates to £20,500 here in the UK & for a 137k miles car, that's pretty high to be honest. You may have tax laws [like Denmark have a 100% car tax rule, I think] which could make this price about right, again, I don't know.
As far as the work done on the engine, it's really a 'short' engine i.e. new block & the rest is original/refurbished. Don't have a problem with that as long as it has a long warranty & you yourself are happy with whoever did the work on the engine. By the way, there are no chains on these, just belts [5.0 petrol & the older 4.4 petrol have chains].
I'm not sure the injector ruining the block is kosher [stand to be corrected] it's immaterial as it's got a new block, just sounds a little weird.
It's down to how you feel, if you have 23,500 euros in your back pocket, how many 2012 Vogues are out there that meet your criteria? That should give you an indication of the market versus the car you have in mind.
Above all else........keep us informed! Very Happy

Hope this helps. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Spain 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Baltic Blue

And that’s why I imported our FF to Spain, rather than buy one here. Even with import costs etc it was still significantly cheaper. FFs are rare out here so choice is limited.

I also think mechanics are not used to these cars, especially the TDV8s, so one that’s had that much work would worry me a little.

If it must be LHD, have you looked at other LHD cars from other countries?

Next time round I’ll be looking at a US import, petrol, obviously. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Thank you for your response.

One new thing I”ve learned today that these cars come with cambelt in stead off chain

The rebuild job was done by the actual owner in a specialished Land Rover shop, what he has toldme is that part are land Rover original but I cam not tell if it is true or not

Do you think that the original short block cpuld cost 3.300 pounds + VAT? That the price shown in the bill

These cars in Spain are not cheap and there is a Big difference between the 3.6 and the 4.4

My main worry is about the rebuilt engine

The thing is that there are not many cars with low millage and with service records
Most used cars are imported and no service records

I migth go for a Range Rover Soport as it seems to be more popular and easy to find, I think that for diésel engine the best one and with less problems is the 4.4 then the 3.6 and finally the Tvd6\Sdv6 for the crankshaft failure

Thank you

Thank you

I might be wrong but I thought all of the V8’s were driven by timing chains and the only Full Fat that had a timing belt was the 3.0 Diesel in the L405. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Spain

Thank you

I´ve checked the Italian market at it seems to be the best offer in Europe for LHD car,

the thing is that taxes in Spain are high for an imported car like this (nos to many years, luxury and diesel) and you have the handicap of been able to see the car or knowing any repair shop to see the car

Ok, I think that I did not understand right and got confused whit this cars having chain instead of belt. That was a thing that found estrange in the repair bill that they bought all components for the timing except the chain

USA is a good market to search for a Petrol Full Fat the only thing is that in order to register the car in Spain you may have to change at least lights. mirrors, etc as they need to be stamped with CE instead of DOT and this could be a bit expensive

I have seen a RRS 3.6 Tdv8 HSE it is a 2010 with the restyling and it has brand new engine from Land Rover dealer and I think it will go for 14.000 pounds All black with some equipment I need and trailer hitch

Oooopss I've shown my ignorance yet again, I honestly thought the 4.4TDV8 was purely a belt driven engine.....always happy to be corrected.
The price of the 'short engine' is about right, I have a colleague who had the dreaded 3.0 V6 crank snap saga & his car went to a LR specialist & his bill was £10k. Somewhere on this forum a member commented on the cost of a short engine.
Reading of who did the work, it doesn't seem too bad a car, as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
Remember......if you go for a 'Sport'.............it'll never ever ever be...................a FFRR....& that my friend is a big burden to live with! Laughing 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

I owned a 911 that needed an engine rebuild. It was done properly at 65k by a main dealer and never missed a beat after. In fact the engine was more powerful, everything felt tighter and I had a lot of peace of mind. I did another 50-60k miles in it over several years and would rather have had the rebuilt engine than the original. I still know where the car is 2 years after I sold it on, and it is still going strong.
The buyer did look into the rebuild quite thoroughly for his own peace of mind.

I still get search results from mobile and autoscout24 weekly and prices in Spain dont seem to be that much higher than the rest of europe?

They are all in the upper end of the spectrum but if condition is good and they are well maintained the prices are not unreasonable, imho..... RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

Hi,

Thank you for all your feedback

I`m still looking and I have found one that may suit my needs and budget as it is a 2012 4.4 Tdv8 full service with 240.000km and in the las 30.000 it has been changed the full suspension, catalisator brakes and cleaned all the turbo and intake circuit

price 20.000€ with all taxed paid

Just one question does any of you know (I´ve been searching but did not find) the height for this car with the suspension at the lowest position?

I`m worried it may not clear my garage entrance

I`ve got a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser VXL that has the air suspension and I have to lower the car in order to clear the garage entrance

Thank you

Standard height is 1878mm, access height drops it 50mm so lowest is 1828mm.

Dunc. The life you have is the only one you'll get; make the most of it.
