That’s very unusual sir...

I’ve never done it, but if you remove the metal guard underneath it, I’m guessing it will all be obvious and straight forward from there...

Thumbs Up

The fill pipe runs down the front of the right rear wheel arch behind the arch shield, does it drip all the time or just after filling..? Pete

i have had the plastic cover off under the right hand side where the filler pipe goes in to the tank, cant see any thing
i have removed the carpet and other parts to get to the fuel pump, cant see any thing there either
this is the first time i have filled the tank, never noticed it leaking before
i have now done 15km since filling it, it still smells a bit but no drips RR 2005 4.4 petrol

I would guess someone has had one of the two opening in the top of the tank open and not shut them properly, there is a rubber gasket which looks like it can be fitted both ways but in fact has a correct way round. If you totally fill the tank till the pump shuts off the petrol in the pipe will leak out the top of the tank and then petrol will splash out the tank till the level drops..

It's an easy fix... can't see the tank will have a hole they are made of very thick plastic and are very tough... Thumbs Up Pete

The rubber seal is slightly wider one side than the other, the thicker side goes upwards, there is a special tool to undo the retaining ring but a hammer and punch works if you are careful, it is a standard right hand thread... The seal is one of those that you chase around the opening thinking this will never fit, it seems too big, it will settle down and go in eventually, handy if someone else holds the filter assembly

The pump is in the bottom of the tank, the bit you can see is the filter, which should be changed at 100,000 miles... Thumbs Up Pete

The part you are looking at in the top of the tank is the filter, the pump is in the bottom of the tank connected to the filter with a pipe and wiring.

The fuel pipe comes off very easily if you know how to do it, there will be an escape of fuel that needs to be shielded from the cars interior...

It is not really a DIY job to fix your issue, you have to have some experience or you could make it worse.

Has this been changed/taken apart recently as it is unlikely it would just start to leak on it's own....

The filter is supposed to be replaced each 100,000 miles so maybe it would be worth letting the dealer change the filter which should resolve the leak...

The filters are around £100 here...

It took me around 40 mins start to finish to do the job but I dare say the dealer will want a couple of hours labour...

Good luck... Thumbs Up Pete
