Restricted Performance red triangle

Ok ive had the full fat for a few weeks now and i recently had the oil cooler done under warranty, that was almost 2 weeks ago and im still getting the burnt oil smell and a lot of smoke especially if i give it the beans on a stretch of road before i get home,
if i drive like ive got the queen in the car not so much smell and no smoke, so today i decided that as ive only done round town trips id take the old girl on a motorway run, down the M69 then onto M1 soulth from j21-j20 is a long junction, all good at all speeds then on the return run from j20-j21 sitting at 70 i got red triangle and restricted performance after about 10 mins i got the car to the local Sainsburys car park and cleared the faults the only one related to the engine was the egr sensor a, which i think is the egt not egr from what ive read, this code has been there every time i check for faults, for reference a few days before getting the oil cooler done i drove to angelsey sitting at 70 and no issues whatsoever, any ideas 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

It is a distinct possibility it may need the turbo drain mod done. Once youve given it the beans does it stop smoking?

sorry it doesn't smoke at all from the exhaust even when you give it the beans i meant from around the back of the engine after switching off, i was told by the garage who did the oil cooler to expect this for a while whilst it burns off any oil left from the leaking oil cooler 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Take it back and get them to check it’s not still leaking.
Plus have a look yourself before chucking it at them. Whip off engine cover, whip out pollen box, get on a step and look behind V at back of engine.
Mine pre oil cooler and gasket change:

Surely any residual oil would have burnt off ages ago.... 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

If code is P040D then it’s an exhaust gas temperature sensor in the passenger side manifold

ill double check the code in the morning, im going to call the garage as they are replacing the belt tensioner that has a dry bearing noise hopefully this week, i popped the bonnet and a lot of burnt oil smoke came from the back of the engine for a few mins so ill get them to check, when i popped the bonnet and went to remove the engine cover i noticed it was split just above the front lhs clip im sure it wasn't split before it went in Rolling Eyes 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Coincidentally, I replaced both gaskets on my oil cooler today (and the two feed pipe o rings) - when replacing the assembly back onto the engine, the lower gasket *could* drop out of its groove and potentially not seal once bolted down - I lifted mine back up a couple of times just to be 100% it had stayed in place.

I imagine it’d be obvious if still leaking from around the cooler rather than residual oil from before the job was done.

Do you know if they also replaced the o rings on the oil feed pipe at the rear of the oil cooler. If you follow what Dr Rob has suggested you will be able to see the pipe going into the oil cooler, shine a torch on there and see if it's clean. You should be able to get your hand down there and feel the nut that hold the pipe to the cooler, give this a wipe, is it clean and free from oil? 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

I did mine recently (In the last 2 weeks) but after advice from my Indy replaced the whole cooler as they are prone to warping and still leaking after the change. I could not tell you if mine was warped i did not check and another member on here has it now.
But the smell of oil has now gone from mine so i can sit at lights without that smell. i did have loads of smoke but that turned out to be from pulling up at home whilst in the middle of a regen and the car has not done it since.
As Dr Rob suggested pull out the pollen filter get a mirror and make sure it is not leaking, check your coolant too mine was leaking oil into the coolant. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

I have several spare viton o rings of the correct size if you want to change them in any case, once the engine cover and plenum are removed (< 2 mins.) it’s a relatively easy job to do. Let me know & I can pop a couple in the post Thumbs Up
