Gearbox - is this normal, or ongoing paranoia?

I hear a slight ‘thunk’ when selecting drive or reverse, please tell me they all do that! Shifting through the gears is as smooth as can be. Thanks in advance for your opinions as always. 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

I get a small clunk sometimes into reverse. Life’s too short to worry about it. Press the brake pedal harder next time Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Most likely what you're hearing is the backlash in the drivetrain being taken up. Conversely, if the drivetrain is under tension, e.g. if you're parked on a steep hill, shifting out of Park releases that tension and you will get a similar symptom.

Yeah mine does that - and my drive is on a slope so you have to ready your nerves. Laughing
It will jerk in all settings accept D -but drives crisp and smooth as heck. Very Happy
