2006 l322 key problems

Good evening gentlemen, help needed - 2006 Td6 - Key issues

Two BMW style keys - Key 1 works 100% OK, doors, tailgate etc will start the car no probs, key 2 but will not synch with the car for central locking, but will start the car OK. On both keys rubber is in bad condition so trying to sort new keys.

Got one new key, but this will not synch with the car. Transponder changed over, new batteries CR2032 tested OK

I have a - Icarsoft Multi system car diagnostics tool LR V2.0 When first used, tool indicated that link was lost to the BCM unit
Shut everything off, re-connected tool, and second time, indication was OK and that there are no fault codes.
Tried reset fault codes anyway, all looks OK. Tried to synch keys again, same problem.

Whilst diagnostic tool was connected, checked EVERYTHING and no fault codes found on anything - Must be very lucky. Touch wood.

I have double checked key synch procedures, and as the other key works, no problems with central locking, opening tail gate, locking vehicle, OK I am assuming that the BCM unit is OK

I am beginning to think that the circuit board inside one key is faulty and that by coincidence the circuit board in the new key is also faulty?

Does anyone have any other info or solutions before I have to get any outside assistance ? Then I'd have to brush the cobwebs off the wallet Big Cry

Thanks to all on here, bloody good site fatty knowledge Thumbs Up So far hoho

I had a very similar problem with a aftermarket key! I sent it back to Boyd at pixels fixed and he synced it to his Range Rover for the central locking and tailgate which it did then sent it back to me I then tried it and it synced 1st time!
Do you know anyone with another RR?

Also there is only a certain amount of keys that be synced to the ecu after that old keys have to be deleted

Cheers Ian, ( That was quick )I did wonder about the number of keys synched and wondered about a limit, but my diagnostic reader did not give any info like that. Hence I do not know how to delete old keys. Thinking about it, that may be the way to go. Maybe I need a better diagnostic tool, or have to go to a dealer or specialist.
Nice tip on the synch with another fatty, but I don't know anyone else with one, none of my friends or family are as daft as me Whistle
Thanks for the reply
Rob

Code readers may sync but won’t code keys to cars. And generally won’t be able to retrieve security codes for them either.

I must admit I got lost a little on which key does what and doesn’t do what.

I used IID for configuration for my Range Rover, BimmerCode for configuration of the M2 and VCDS for Volkswagen/Audi/Group. But for anything key or security code related I use my XTool X100 as it can program and code nearly anything. Even when you’ve lost your security codes. If you were local I’d happily help, but I would recommend to find a local automotive locksmith to help with this. That way you can clear all the codes keys and ensure that you only have the ones that you have activated.

Thanks for your time and info gents, much appreciated, I realised that the code reader could not sort out the keys, and it looks like you are right, I will have to have the old key entries deleted, so to speak. Next job to find an auto locksmith in my neck of the woods who can do this. That way I can get two new flip keys at the same time.

Thanks for the help Bl4ckdog, ( Very nice fatty you have there Thumbs Up ) first thing I did was checked the price for the Xtool x100, but it is probably not worth me buying one for a one off problem, so an auto locksmith it will be.
Research for that online will now be tomorrow, as the bar has now opened, therefore I will avoid the Ebay temptatation unlike other members on this site Rolling with laughter

Thanks gents
Rob

Just be prepared that they shouldn't be travelling from Scotland at the moment Wink And they are not according to their website, and their 'tour' has been postponed several times for obvious reasons.

Talking won't hurt, but if you need something now, any local automative locksmith can do this. It really isn't magic, just need to have the right tools. And as Merchy said, for one car it may not makes sense, but if you have several cars to do (sadly we were burgled and I had to get all our keys done and neither the car nor the home insurance would cover the car keys stolen to be recoded) getting the tools myself was by far not only the latest, most convenient but also cheapest way.

Thank you Ian and Blackdog, much appreciated. I think I have found a local outfit to carry out said work.
I occasionally visit Glasgow, to my employer's head office, for me it is a 4 hour drive so it definitely would be rude to expect Pixels to visit me, to say the least, if I requested a visit I would rightly get Censored comments.

If I need to I will contact Boyd Beattie if I have problems as you recommended.

Sorry to hear about the burglars, if I caught any at my place I would probably end up 'doing time' for GBH Whistle

Love the 'it isn't really magic' comment, as I work on a few friends and family cars, they all now think I am a wizard

Smile Possibly. I had 4 police cars, six officers and a helicopter within about 6-8 minutes of me calling 112. I left it to them, but they were already gone. Some of my equipment was encrypted and tracked and it did ping up. I managed to locate the street and houses and guided the burglary team there but they couldn't get a warrant sadly. I then bricked it remotely and made it useless to them. And recoded all the keys they took. Never seen them again except for a phone that ping'd home 30 miles away on Christmas day...I bet little Johnny had a surprise when his 'dad' gave him that one only for it to display 'This is stolen and the police has been alerted to your location'. I never saw it come online ever again 🤣

Good luck with the keys Thumbs Up

Some of the old style keys do not support the learning mode of the EWS system and need to have their remotes hard coded. The keys actually have 3 separate things - 1. A key blade to fit the lock barrel 2. A transponder to unlock the immobiliser 3. The remote for the car's convenience functions (I.e. remote unlock).

I had the same problem you had. Have no fear though because, there's a cheap solution, which is actually a great outcome.

You can buy 'Key upgrades' on eBay and Aliexpress. There's a company on eBay who you send a photo of your key blade to and they send you a new remote with the key blade already cut, all for £30 (providing you have a transponder). All you have to do is take the transponder out of the old key and put it in the new one.

I have the Bentley style keys and they look great:

I only had one key with my car (and therefore, only 1 transponder) and did the eBay Key upgrade. I then bought an additional spare blank off Aliexpress for £14 and, paid a fantastic auto locksmith £60 to cut the blade and clone the transponder for me so, I could have 2 keys. These keys support the EWS learning system so, you can programme more than you'll need.

As you have that 2nd key, you could just go straight ahead and order the eBay key, which does support the learn function - all you'd have to do is put your transponder In it. It will likely solve the issue (and a load of hassle).

GaryRR and all, thank you for the help, this started out as a simple task and nearly there.

I now have two of the same keys as in above pics, they start car OK, got a guy coming on Monday to sort out the synch issues for central locking etc, to delete old entries, as it's not worth me buying the gear ( Such as Bl4ckD0g's XTool x100 ) just for what is hopefully a one off task. Thumbs Up

There's a locksmith on eBay who will cut a new blade from your photo and send you an upgraded style key for £30:
