What to Look for on a 2014 4.4 Autobiography

Hi all, I will be going to look at a 2014 4.4 Autobiography on Wednesday and would like to know if there is anything I need to look out for and also check any big / expensive items that should have been serviced or are soon to be. It’s got 60k on the clock.

I have my IID but it’s registered to my sport so not sure what functionality it will have to reset faults before of goo on the test drive…

Thx all in advance:)

I picked up a 2013 of the same model in March. To be honest I just winged it as it was from a dealer so I could reject it within a month if it had serious problems.

All I could do was test every part of the electrics, ride height settings, parking brake, entertainment system, etc. Beyond that it gets mechanical and that’s outside my knowledge.

I’ll be honest, that’s why I bought from a dealer, any suspicious noises I hear now are awesome, it’s something for them to fix before the warranty runs out.

Just to follow-up, I’m assuming that’s the best part of £30k+, so if it’s a private sale I would absolutely get it professionally checked over before buying. If you wanted a 3rd party warranty Motoreasy seem to come well recommended, and will give the car a free health check when you take out a policy. (So I would get them to check it, and if they say it’s junk, cancel the policy and walk away) For them it’s good to see (and possibly exclude) pre-existing issues. For you, it means you know what works and what doesn’t, and if it goes wrong afterwards you have a warranty.

They quoted me about £1400 for a year on my RR, but after I ignored them for 2 weeks they offered 15 months for the price of 12. Kinda tempted for when my dealer warranty runs out, or I might just put aside £2k a year and draw down from that when things need doing.

I had a couple of issues with my 2014 when I bought it last year. Nothing that wasn't easily fixed at the dealers expense. I posted a thread on it here: https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic56981.html Kev

Yes, the oil cooler in the V of the engine is common for leaking. It leaks down the back of the engine. Kev

Try to drive it at low speed over bumps and listen for potentially expensive suspension clunks.
Check tyre wear is even.
Take your time and make sure all the gadgets and buttons work.
Put the suspension up and down and make sure it works smoothly.

Buy a 2015 or newer car

By model year 2015 (assembly date July 2014 onwards, if I remember correctly), the bugs were worked out.

I had a leak from oil cooler and thermostat hosing. £1,850 plus VAT to get repaired at LR Dealership! All going well since.

Can anyone confirm if anything built after July 2014 “should” have all the bugs ironed out ? Keen to get back into an L405 and if so, this may widen my options a bit as I’ve only been looking at anything built Jan 2015 on

My 2016 MY VSE has had no issues, but more recent cars with ICT pro and later have had bugs with various bits of kit. Seems solving one issue creates others.
