Car Tax

Wow Shocked I just retaxed the car, Five hundred and Eighty five quid for the year. I did it monthly last year but that equates to six hundred and fourteen pounds and twenty five pence this year so I didn't bother. Geoff

I still can't believe that things like car tax, TV licence etc. all penalise people for setting up monthly direct debits by charging more.

Given the enormous cost to prosecute these sorts of minor offences it is counter-productive.

It's the same as the Censored energy companies charging people on pre-pay meters more than the likes of me who can fork out an inflated monthly bill so that I'm always in credit with them... makes me very cross.

Also, £585 is a flipping liberty, I had to do it when I bought mine last week and it took the shine off the purchase for a minute or two Shocked (then I drove it back and the RR smile sorted me out!) 2012 L322 TDV8 Vogue SE: Buckingham Blue

That makes me feel better about spending £490 on renewing mine yesterday, thanks!

That will all be undone when I spend another £490 in a couple of months time on my wife’s car. Which, thanks to it being over £40k as I wanted a decent spec, is a VW Golf! MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Yes, think mine will be something in excess of £565 or whatever, in a couple of months. By the way the year has gone, I bet it’s nigh on a pound a mile 😱😡

Don’t get me started on energy companies... I was £900 in credit a year or so ago... I played hell.... told them I don’t bank with them... now they want readings every 2 weeks, to force me to get a smart meter 🤣

I recall hearing many years ago that the vehicle taxes in England were partly based on the engine bore. Because of this manufacturers started making engines with a smaller bore and a longer stroke.

Does your post imply that it's now wholly or partly based on engine displacement?

Here in the USA the annual fees vary from state to state. In California (where I live) it's largely based on the vehicle value and as the vehicle depreciates each year the annual taxes also decrease.

Thanks,
Larry. 2009 Range Rover L322 Autobiography

Still hurts paying £330 for my Td6 Shocked and it only did 2200 miles last year. Rip off. Car tax is now just an extra means of taxation, like average speed cameras, and speed camera vans, always placed where they get the most 'hits', not at accident black spots. Censored
That's it rant over, spleen vented, now the bar can open, have a good weekend folks. Thumbs Up

It is also down to if it’s EU6 or not Stan, the post 15/16 eu6 4.4’s and 3.0 are cheaper to tax than the earlier cars. According to Parker’s the 3.0 from 14-17is only £275 and the 15-17 4.4’s are £340.

Cant find my tax renewal ticket to see if that was right for the 4.4 but I do recall it being cheap. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

They dont, they give a discount to the ones that pay 12 months in advance and rightly so.

Giving the pay monthly option is to help with this.

Alternative viewpoint, why should I pay to fund people going on pre-payment meters? it's right and proper that if they cant be trusted to deal with a monthly bill then they should go on pre-payment which is also funded by themselves.

Mine was £300 and something IIRC, that’s for a 16MY 4.4 V8.

When I started this thread I have to say I expected a bit of solidarity from all Range Rover owners, what I didn't expect was the "I'm alright jack" smugness of those with 3L Range Rovers or newer ones that have ad blu to worry about. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Geoff
