United Kingdom 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Giverny Green

Interesting JoolB. Thumbs Up

Looking at the 'big diesel' as an alternative. There are some lovely looking and spec'd Autobiographys on the market and cheaper than the SC's I've been drawn to.

Think I will have to test drive the SDV8 to get a good feel for it

That’s why I picked up my 2013 4.4 in March. Most people already figured it’s coming, and dumped their cars on the market. I realised that whilst I live relatively close to London, I have driven into the ULEZ zone once in 7 years, so having a non-compliant vehicle really doesn’t bother me. I’m sure there are more vehicles yet to drop on the market, especially as many people seem blissfully unaware of these changes that will affect them. Personally, I wouldn’t touch a diesel L405 from inside the north/south circular with a bargepole. At the risk of generalising, many will have done lots of short journeys, and picked up all the little knocks/bumps/scratches that living in London gifts to big cars. There will be some immaculate exceptions, but I wouldn’t k or how to weed them out.

United Kingdom

I wouldn't rule out London V8's (you have to have a V8 once in your life lol) the dealers are more likely to be open to lower offers as they want to shift the volume, more than the likes of more rural dealers, who are wanting every penny and have cars on their books for many months.
I bought MY18 in March, previous owner was a new car every 3 Years chap and it was a 3Y old with just over 9000 miles no dents no scratches, no scuffed alloys. It was during lockdown and not many people were buying cars, the dealer knew I had 2 other cars as a favourite and I negotiated a good deal. I never even test drove the car as I put my trust in Landrover approved 2nd hand car warranty scheme, and had the virtual video etc
OK I have had 2 issues, in the last 3 months of ownership, 1 was the Turbo actuator fault which was a known Bulletin, sorted by LR Warranty.
The other was a failure of the Silencer valve on the Compressor for the Air suspension, again something that was a known failure on a certain range of VIN's -said Mr LR assist.
Enjoy your search, my search was only V8 L405, I personally didn't want the extra worry of maybe a V6 crank problem.

Oh and I agree about this forum, top class members, great advice, and not seen any flaming wars as you get with other forums--lol 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Thanks for all the information and personal experiences of your cars.

Once purchased I know I'm going to have a few issues but I think we all have that same thought in ours minds, after all, we dont buy RR's for an easy life but when they are running well they are majestic.

Here's another question for you guys.

When searching for an upgrade, do you put the registration into an MOT search engine and see how the previuos MOT's have faired ???

It's very interesting to do it on VehicleSmart and see the strange results

2013 L405. 40,000 miles. amber, amber, red, red, green, amber, green,

2013 L405. 127,000 miles. green, green, green, green, green, amber, green. And the amber was a registration bulb

I would suggest that the latter vehicle would have been serviced in line with its MOTs, and therefore would not have been submitted for an MOT unless the garage was confident it could pass.

The former vehicle suggests multiple MOTs between services, which would catch all the annoying and expensive repairs that these vehicles are known for.

My wife’s old Jag had a perfect MOT record, because I sent it to the garage each year with an instruction to service and MOT it.

My car had a far more chequered history, as my low mileage and frequent trips abroad meant that it was not a problem for it to spend 6 months a year off the road, and at tie end of that day, mine was the better cared for vehicle.

Probably correct MM.

I use my local MB specialist in Fleetwood Lancashire. I pay for a pre MOT check (£40), it's then serviced and if any faults are found it gets repaired and sent 50 yds back to the MOT centre for the proper test. Bit OTT but I like to keep the MOT history totally clean for the next buyer and I do tell them what I do as I have all the invoices Thumbs Up Range Rover 2002 P38 4.6 Vogue

When going back to look again, try from a different IP address.

Thats a good point about IP addresses, I use a VPN anyway but dont often bother to change the VPN IP address during the day. I leave it up to the VPN provider to do it when the computer is restarted, mostly I close the lid rarely re-start it. Time to modify my behaviour lol
They use IP address collection during Car Insurance searches as well? Watch your Cookies lol 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Probably not much help if you’re after an SC, but there may be a few more big diesels on the market after October when the ULEZ in London extends to the north circular. I have friends in town who are planning to change their cars once it comes in.

Good point. IIRC it's not just the extension of the zone though. I thought I read somewhere that central London residents will lose their current 100% discount on the ULEZ daily charge, so at £12.50 a day that's a serious amount of dosh annually for most ordinary folks living in London.

Just remember, there will not be too many more chances to own a 5 litre Supercharged V8... Thumbs Up

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the torque of a big electric motor but the whole ownership experience of the S/C takes a lot to beat it... and don't worry about the chains... cheap to change now and not a big issue... Thumbs Up Pete

I’d still really like one but I do a lot of miles and don’t want to be spending forever at the pumps, I’m there enough as it is.

Dick Turpin Land Rover in Chesterfield have just raised the price of the 5.0 Supercharged by another £3000 again from the first time I posted this thread.

If nobody bought it at £35,000 they definitely wont at at £41300

They are only about a mile from me. Last time I went in, there was no parts desk/counter anymore, only the showroom, so a sales person had to go in the back and get the part you’d ordered, whilst you stood in the showroom, looking at new cars, feeling like you don’t have enough money 🤣
