Post Covid Greed ????????

Hello FullFatters.

Would like opinions from members who have been looking to upgrade to a newer vehicle recently.

Always wanted the L322 SC 5.0 but like everyone am being put off by the chains and to pay mid to late £20K for the perfect model and still to do them doesn't make sense to me.

So I decided to look for the L405 version. Upon perusing the classifieds, decided I love the Firenze Red version (or white).

Found one on Autotrader for £35,000 at a LR dealer so added it to my saved list.

Returned a couple of days later to see if any new RR's had been added to the AT listings and found that the price had risen by just shy of £4000.

So my questions are.

1) Stock shortage?
2) Dealers greed???

And if the dealers see that cars have been added to a 'saved list' do they bump the price up hoping that nobody will notice??

Ironically this happened a couple of weeks earlier on a 2010 5.0 SC that I saved in my list. The local dealer who is local to me, added £2000 to the listing price and as soon as I removed it from my list the price went back down.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you guys might have. Even if its from the motor trade.

Can't answer for the Dealer greed question, but there is a bit more around current prices in this thread:

Used prices have been going up a lot recently, up to 20-25% according to what I’ve read. Dealers tend to review their prices regularly and adjust them, used to be down over a period but it’s been the opposite in 2021.

So the best advice it to get on with it! MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

So we are not wanting our fatties to increase in value then? Just kidding. I know what you mean. This is good if you are selling, but not buying... obviously.

I suppose in an ideal world, you’d sell now and buy when prices drop again, but that would mean no RR for a bit.

There will only be one winner in this, and it’s not us 🤣 I bet trade in values haven’t gone up as much.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Shortage of new cars, plus low consumer confidence has led to a greater demand in used cars, hence the increase in prices

Some very good opinions so far guys, thanks. I'm hoping this is just a temporary trend.

MJ is right, it is nice for owners to see their investments rise or at least be worth what they paid for it a short while ago which I do like, unfortunately prestige models do take a big hit with values after a purchase so seeing a positive in prices is great.

A good thread Andy, thanks.

Think I might just hold off for a while and see how it goes. Hopefully the scales may tip the other way and buyers will be able to get a good deal soon

Have you noticed a rise in the SDV8 Market ???

I might consider looking at the 4.4 diesel after seeing some good reviews on here and Youtube.

Your thoughts on your vehicle experience would be much appreciated as an owner

I’m no expert, but I think the more a car is worth, the more it’s affected by price fluctuations, in that if you hold on to yours a bit, like you say, if prices drop, the newer car ought to drop more than your current one.

Unless you own a fast Ford from the 70s or 80s... that market has been mad for a while 🤣.

I’ve had mine 12 months now and if it was on a main dealer forecourt the it would be about the same price, maybe £1-2k less at most, so yes values have gone up. Butwhen you look at trade in values (Motorway is a good guide) then it’s lost £7-8k....but I was expecting to average £12k a year over 3 years so I’m fine with that. As has been said, like with houses, strong values aren’t any good to you if you’re upgrading as the gap just gets bigger.

I’m really happy with the car and really pleased to report it’s been fault free. I thought by buying a 12 month old car is stand the bast chance to it not driving me mad with issues and I was right. Im still convinced the SDV8 is the one to have, performance is acceptable for the size of vehicle and anything faster wouldn’t suit it and economy is better than expected. The main reason for choosing it though was the anti roll and I wouldn’t have one without it as it rolls enough as it is! I always have it in Dynamic on A Roads, the ride is still good and I find the reduced movement makes it feel more comfortable.

I bought it because we needed the rear seat width to get 2 x tall teenage boys and a baby seat in comfortably and it is excellent as a family carrier. If I didn’t need that space, then something like a Panamera Turbo Estate would suit me better, but overall I’m happy for now. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

People's bank accounts are awash with cash, no shops open for months on end, no pubs open, no foreign holidays, nothing else to spend cash on but either a replacement house or car, hence tge step change in both.

Thanks Martin, very helpful indeed. I think the 4.4 SDV8 might be the way to go as there seems to be a very good selection out and they do seem reasonable priced, even with the direction of this thread to determine prices.

I'm currently running a 2015 Merc' E220 Estate which was a choice I had to make to accommodate two elderly parents and a wheelchair. Doing trips of 3 and 4 miles at 10 to 20 mph is not good for it as I have had to replace the KNOX sensors three times in 2 years of ownership. Hopefully by hitting the M55 motorway at Blackpool for the 30 minute drive at 70 mph (Mercedes recommendation) will assist in clearing out the DPF.

Think it's time for a brew and look at 4.4 SDV8 threads. Range Rover 2002 P38 4.6 Vogue
