Rear Shocks

Hi all,

so after a recent incident i found one of my rear shocks was leaking, now i know the other was replaced recently. So after some searching i ordered up a Bilstein replacement from Famous Four (Great price) as it was only £20 more than an Aerosus item and recently there is evidence they are re-branding chinese items!!

So replaced rear shock thought i would see what the other one is but it is un branded so my question is do i replace with a Bilstein unit so i have a matching pair or as it is working fine just leave it?

so thoughts please Thumbs Up 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Absolutely. ALWAYS replace suspension components like shocks and springs as a pair. While any suspension imbalance may be perceived as being slight, do you really want ANY imbalance in a car weighing getting on for three tons? The other thing of course is the damping rates of 2 different shocks may be very different. You just don't know, so eliminate the element of risk.

As your shocks are CVD with damping ecu controlled and the other has recently been replaced, I do not consider it warranted to replace the Bilstein.

This is what i thought. the one i have just put on was to replace an original LR one so it was 11 years old. the one on the other side was replaced at the last MOT records show, so it is just coming up for 1 year old. The prev owner had the car MOT'd and sold it so only replace 1 shock as that was the failure on the MOT.

Sam ordinarily i would agree but due to them being what they are and there is nothing wrong with the function of the other side apart from it is un branded, this is what is in question. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
