Note if you do run the oil out, don’t worry, these gearboxes/torque converters self bleed, just don’t run it dry for an extended period. 👍
NEVER run the gearbox without oil. The gearboxes are filled with oil then the pump primed before the gearbox is fitted to a vehicle. Draining the oil for an oil change doesn't drain the pump.

The first component to fail when inadequate oil is in the pump is the seal to the E clutch which shares the same shaft. Unless you're speaking from experience of having allowed the engine to run with nil oil intake even for a few seconds then IMO you shouldn't be advocating that no damage will be done by doing so.

Brilliant idea and well explained. Just to check did you flush through with zf6 atf and I presume it's junk and thrown away when both flushes have been done?

Also if you do this what amount would you need approximately to refill the gearbox as just dropping the pan is normally about 7 litres I believe. Thanks Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue
