United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Luxor
Our 8 year old SDV8 Autobiography

Really grateful for all the info here. It has been very useful to me. Thanks.

Sadly my father recently passed and he's left the family with a L405 and we decided to buy it off his estate.

It's an 8 year old SDV8 Autobiography with just 24,000 miles on the clock which he had from new. Five main dealer stamps on the book including one we did after he had died. Only one other independent service invoice found but we think it had at least one more indie service which I am trying to follow up.

I'm getting a few thousand pounds of work done when it goes in tomorrow to an independent LR specialist. Almost half of which is paintwork. He' had a few minor scrapes in car parks etc before he stopped driving it a year or so ago. Since then it's been driven by family to take him and mum around.

He had all four generations of Range Rovers over many years. I think my favourite was the original Range Rover Classic, of which he had a fairly late model.

Until we had lots of kids (six!) I had a few Jaguar XJs over the years. The L405 is like stepping back into one of those albeit a couple of feet higher off the ground.

Our main car is a Merc Vito as it has eight seats. Slightly different beast to the RR but great in its own way.

Anyway, sorry for the essay, but we're thrilled with the new addition and hope we haven't taken on too much with such a complex car.

The colour is Luxor, a light silvery gold.

It does look different in changing light conditions.

Very happy with it so far. Got no where near flooring it yet. Just taking it easy. Reminds me of my 4 litre Jags in that respect. The power is there if you need it. Still, 4.4 litres is my biggest engine so far.

Welcome Peter, fantastic colour is Luxor, pictures really don't do it justice, looks very modern when you see it in the flesh. Sad circumstances, but what a great reminder of times past, fantastic cars on the whole, that drive way better than they should, I noticed a huge difference over the older 322.

Thanks again for the generous comments and warm welcome.

When my parents downsized last year I repatriated my boyhood toy car box. The cars were very 'clean' when I left them (I think!), but have been through the hands of nine grandchildren since.

Police car is Corgi, the 'Civilian' and Ambulance are Dinky. I can't think of another model of car I had more than one of let alone three. The seed must have been sowed very young...

Sorry to hear about the passing of your father.

Positive news regards the car though. Hopefully it’ll be a spanker when all the work had been done. Given the sentimental value of the Range, I’m sure you’ll love it! Post some pics of the interior when you can! I’m all about the interior.

Thank you Kungfupanda,

The interior is the best part of the car in terms of condition. I need to give it a bit of TLC when the car returns from the garage later this week.

Any recommendations on what product to use for the leather? It is a very light cream/ivory colour.

My wife was thinking of us using the balm pictured below. We use it on an ivory leather sofa. Do we need something car specific like Autoglym?

I always thought the leather was sealed, so all these conditioners don’t do anything?

That said, I still wipe stuff on mine from time to time.

The basic leather is fully sealed, so a standard leather cleaner is all you need, anything with a conditioner in will just sit on the surface and make the leather shiny/attract dirt.

The semi-aniline leather is a bit different, liquid cleaner does soak in a bit which it wouldn't do if it was sealed. I still wouldn't (and don't) bother with conditioner though as I don't think it would give any benefit and it would still mainly sit on the surface.

The cleaner I use (from LTTLeathercare.co.uk) which is Auto Foam for deep clean every 5-6 months, Auto protect (stops die transfer, makes it easy to keep clean) and Auto Maintain which I use every couple of weeks as it's just a quick wipe over and it keeps the leather soft and looking nice and matt. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

Thanks for all the tips. I'm sure they're all better than what I was going to use.

I've ordered the Auto Leather Care Kit from LTT Leathercare.

I've also spent half an hour learning about aniline leather, semi-aniline leather, etc. Wow, love all your knowledge!
