Hi Folks.

So as some of you know I recently took my Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE to Scotland for my honeymoon. Luckily whilst, not running 100% when leaving she performed wellish having achieved over 1700 miles.

The faults were as follows:

Manifold Boost (And it would cut the power). Recently replaced the turbos and suspect that one of the manifold pipes is collapsed. Awful trouble with a supplier and part only arriving tomorrow despite ordering it over 3 weeks ago!!

Nonetheless today I want to talk about the air suspension. The exhaust valve somewhere appears to be faulty. IE the car will not drop height, it will raise but not go down. This caused a lot of bings informing us of suspension fault MAX 35 MPH throughout our 1700 miles. However, at least unlike earlier cars (thinking P38) it maintains height and we can keep going and likewise keep the springs pressurised when they drop too low.

However, having replaced the entire air suspension unit tray in the rear wheel storage area with a working unit from an old car, AFTER having actually bought a cheap compressor on eBay I'm no further on with the fault still showing/ occurring.

I then went a replaced the front valve block and rear valve block and yet the fault still occurs.

What else is there left to replace? I'm at a loss.

Where would one look next. I've replaced everything in my mind.

The brass breather on the exhaust line gets blocked - drill a small hole through it.

I've removed this. Still no luck, I've replaced everything in the rear spare wheel arch.

Is removing it an option or does it need to see some kind of pressure restriction there. I had a similar problem recently with the 35mph suspension warning and I seem to remember it wasn't happy with the silencer completely removed.

As suggested I drilled a small hole (then made it bigger, and bigger again ) which almost solved the problem. Got rid of almost all of my suspension fault issues but I am just about to replace it for a new part as I still have issues venting when going from off-road height directly to access mode.

Is there a fault with the electrical supply between the suspension ecu and the pilot exhaust valve?

Pins 5 & 6 of the smallest connector on the suspension ecu. This connector is reasonably easy to accidentally dislodge.
The suspension ecu is mounted on the bottom edge of the back of the rear fuse panel with the connector wires just visible below the bottom.

Sorry, the 3.6's suspension ecu is under the left end of the facia but has the same set of connectors.

That's the thing. With the previous compressor/ exhaust valve I tired it installed/ removed. No difference. This one actually has a hole drilled in it, but I'm going to remove it completely and see does it make a difference with this compressor unit.

On the plus side, at least it *sort of maintains height!!! Nonthing worse than bumpstops!

Try stripping down the desiccant dryer on the suspension compressor , it may be saturated, you can reuse the beads after heating them up in the oven to regenerate for a couple of hours.

I actually replaced this part when I swapped over the compressor unit with a spare.

This fault is so strange. Is there anything I'm missing?

Bar the ecu which is my next port of call.

Faulty or broken level sensors can be a problem as they corrode internally if not used for a while.
