Electric Thermostat

Hi

Does anyone know what item the photo is referring to, please?

My coolant temp works just fine, the auxiliary fan kicks in when it should.

Thanks

The thermostat has a wax section that is heated by an electrical element to allow the thermostat to open further. Corrosion caused by leaking coolant where the electrical plug connects causes the wiring to go open circuit thus triggering the fault.

On mine the wires had corroded completely off the plug. One day I’ll terminate the wires with a resistor to make the ECU think the thermostat element is still intact. Ron B. VK2OTC

Thanks for the response Ron and duly noted.

However, I'm still unsure which thermostat it is referring to?

Sorry, I should have made it clearer. It’s the engine coolant thermostat.

OK Thank you, Ron

I'll check for that, it didn't occur to me as it appears to read the temperature fluctuations (0 to norm 105-107) just fine.

I will let you know. Brit in Canada

It seems you are confusing the engine temp sensor with the thermostat. Ron B. VK2OTC

Ok

Just took a look at my spare, I assume you mean #1 (as I see the thermostat behind it) and 2 is the temp Sensor (gauge).
I get it now, never occurred to me there may be an electrical connection to the therm.

Thx for you patience
