Tailgate glass side trim

Can anybody tell me if the rear tailgate glass side rubber trims [ded500180/190] stop water dripping onto the rear parcel shelf when you open the tailgate when it's raining?
I know some cars seem to not have had them fitted from new but just wondered if any owners that do have them fitted could comment please.
I know they rot but I would put some waxoil on them before fitting.
Thanks Kev.

I binned mine when they started corroding and haven’t noticed any difference with water dripping.

Ditto. Noticed no difference after I binned them. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

I doubt you will have much luck getting them to stick to the glass once you have treated them with waxoyl.
One of mine corroded soI removed it, but the other side is bonded to the glass and won’t budge.

Thanks guys. Going to go out with a jug of water then and see what's happening.
Mike, I thought they pushed into the the gap between the glass and tailgate, didn't realise they bonded the whole length, I thought just the ends. Thumbs Up

They stop some water… it’s better than having them not fitted, compared to the TD6 I had. I don’t have to quickly reach under and whip the parcel shelf out the way as I open the tailgate. Especially having an Ivory interior….

That said, like most, mine are corroding and looking a bit unsightly… don’t think replacements are particularly cheap either.

Yes, they aren't cheap. £70 the pair. Thanks.

Mr Tee, can you remember if they stopped the parcel shelf getting wet?
I don't think mine has ever had any fitted.

I've learnt to open the tailgate sloooowly when wet to allow the water to drain down the side channels without splashing the parcel shelf. 2011MY 4.4TDV8 Autobiography Baltic Blue

I replaced them with LR parts. Expensive but I wanted to keep it orginal. If you fit them properly (and clean the glass really well) they stay on nicely. Bit fiddly to get the rubber in.

I like them but others (like DR Rob) feel it's a neater, cleaner line without. He has great taste and experience too so it's 50/50!..

I replaced mine with original parts from Duckworths. Found that they came loose when the car was being washed. Added silicon adhesive inside the channel then re-fitted and ne'er a problem since. I prefer them fitted as they do channel the water away from the interior as they are designed to do. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

That's exactly what I wanted to hear mate. I've got some silicone so will apply some as well. Thanks very much.

How hard are these to get out ?
mine are both a bit corroded although not exactly falling off

Don’t want to crack the glass!
