Ticketed For Overhang anyone?

Following on from a couple of threads about LWB potential purchases ....

When I was considering the purchase of my Range Rover, I was a bit concerned about it being 5 metres long and overhanging a standard car parking space and an LWB at 5.2 metres? Anyway, to hell with it and I bought mine, not an LWB I might add.

Touch wood, I've not had a ticket for said offence, but has this ever happened to anyone here?

not an 'overhang' problem but related..

theres a particular carpark in swindon that has a 2 ton max weight restriction so this van [in papers article] was ticketed .

the average FF is well over 2 tons so i think is could be a problem..

AFAIK the wheels have to be within marked space not the body so any car can fall foul. I've come across height restrictions on CP's that the L322 struggles with even in access mode where the barrier is on the bottom of a ramp and had to back out and park somewhere else. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Laughing

We hardly ever venture into our local town centre, when we did we have a 2 year old so try and park in such a way that we can get them out the car without being up tight to the car next to us. On this occasion that resulted in the drivers side being literally on the line... £60 fine for not being in the bay in a relatively empty car park.

We also have a Skoda Octavia and thats the usually vehicle of choice for town centre activities. Lesson learnt, shop on Amazon. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I’m another on who got a ticket for not being in bay, actually impossible as track of FF was actually wider than the lines 🙄 Geoff

I always thought it was the wheels, but I understand now that it’s the entirety of the vehicle. In practice it’s never been a problem with a bit of common sense.

Many years ago I dropped my very pregnant wife off to go to a pram shop opposite where I'd stopped momentarily. A motorcycle policeman stopped me before pulling away in my then 2.8 Granada and gave me a ticket for about three inches of rear bumper overhanging the zig zag of a zebra crossing. Cost me £40 back then for a very spurious call by the copper. One of those days when he was just feeling spiteful I assume.

Common-sense would have been nice but I was dealing with a parking company. In fact I don't think I ever paid and they didn't pursue it. Geoff

I came back to this last week. Ok I’m on the line but I don’t see any need
For this especially as the car park was fairly quiet.

Parking problems ? Take a look at PEPIPOO

Also have a tape measure with you. I always have one in the car.

A fine on a street, can not be enforced if the lines are not the right distance and I’m pretty sure width . I took westminster apart on this subject, fully supported by the department of transport! Signs wrong, lines wrong, just a cash collection mafia .

I always thought it was wheels within the lines. must look it up… Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...
