2nd Battery

Morning all,

My great plan for a solar charger just doesn't seem to cut it so, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 2nd battery in the boot?

I've seen a kit on e-bay which has a fuse, relay and some lengths of Red cable already 'screwed' together but at £100 it seems a bit steep (I know for a fact that I have all those bits lying around so all I need is instructions to build and fit one)

Cheers

France 2006 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Today is Monday, I fitted this kit yesterday Sunday, with a 110ah battery into the right side towball void under the floor.

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/202528541127?_trkp...0667.m2042

I bought the ready assembled kit because in terms of time etc, it just seemed to make sense not to have to measure, cut, and make up cable ends.

Kit was perfect, instructions very clear, even included extra bits just in case.

I used one of the bumper bolts as the Earth point.

I did use both fuses as suggested ie before and after the relay, probably overkill but hey.

Located battery with the terminals inboard to aid access.

Just had to cut out a very small 1.5" section of the plastic tray that you cant even see, to clear the top of the +ve terminal bolt, and also trimmed down the rear captive bolt sticking up out of the floor in case it poked through the bottom of the battery.

The only fitting headache was physically lifting the 110ah battery in and out of the deep but narrow recess during the positioning process. Mighty heavy!!

All carpets and panels back in place, you would never know that a big battery was there.

Didn't bother with pictures because Joe90 and other threads give a good idea.

Had a look at that kit and it's a fair price for what is included. One thing you might want to consider is lifting the loom out of the well and routing it up and over the wing fusebox, I did this easily. My concern was the battery could possibly move over time with vibration and bumps then wear through the insulation. 2007 TDV8 VSE

looks good, have got a split charger system on my Disco for the winch but that uses an ignition controlled relay as apposed to voltage sensing (as in that kit) so would need a suitable pick-up point on a fuse box if I went the same way (usually its a system that is 'Dead' during the engine start but then becomes 'live' once the engine is running)

Thanks for the info

Good point about the loom and just to be extra safe i'd make some form of clamp for the battery ( I know it effectively under the floor panel but you wouldn't want it hitting you on the back of the head if the worst happened Wink )
