HI i have done my one,they are painted and as standard they dont have clear coat on them..it must of been painted. i used paint from halfords, paint code is on here somewhere, its not hard to get of but while you are there whip off the windscreen scuttle and give it a coat of saturn black, makes a big difference and again while you have the wipers of do them and the plastic covers as well. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

I happened to be pricing a new one up today for my car as it has a similar state although not quite as bad. £147 + VAT.

I think you'll need to repaint before lacquer. Getting just enough lacquer off so that it doesn't still show will be tough.

Hmmm... so how to get those wiper adjuster thingies off, (feel another ACME tool coming on!) and do they have to be replaced as it says in RAVE?

Low profile ball joint separator or a puller. I used a 2 legged bearing puller.

I definitely didn't replace them- they came off nice and cleanly. Just wire brushed the galvNic corrosion off, greased and re-fitted. Can be a good opportunity to ensure your wipers park correctly. If they already do, just mark the boss and spindle with a permanent marker.

OK - windscreen guys pulled them off before I could dig out my ball joint separator and have a go!

Anyway this is about the air intake cover.

Removal is one of those keep tugging until all the plastic clips release and hopefully don't break! I pushed up the front one with a pair of pliers, but had to just pull the rear ones up.

Take care when removing the connectors fixed to the windscreen washers the plastic is a bit fragile.
WORD OF WARNING:you can (it seems) only fit the windscreen washers into place with the air intake cover off the car, otherwise the little spouts that take the rubber tube foul the bonnet.

Used a slightly worn piece of P60 aluminium grit to attack the loose and peeling paint, then 600 wet and dry, then 1200 wet and dry to finish before painting and after each coat.

Other than that removal and replacement is straight-forward. Here are pics of the transformation:

Very good Joe , but me being a lazy sod got chipsaway to do it

nice one joe, looks brill.did you do the scuttle..i have the tool to take them off just for reference ..when done it makes a big difference, its nice when you do it your self  V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Yep, nice to do it yourself, as much about having the time and the inclination - as for the skill I'm not a great bodywork person, but if I can't do a small piece of plastic.....

Scuttle just got the "Black Chrome" treatment, no Satin Black in the cupboard today.

Yup, massive improvement and time well spent Joe.. I had the bodyshop paint mine the same colour as the car (Stornoway) along with the side vents and grille. 80 quid all in.

You might like to think on a 60 grand car that LR could stretch to some plastics which were not quite as cheap.

Just done mine, door handles, side vents & small strip above the rear reg in Java black & makes a hell of a difference and a good freshen up
