2017 L405 TDV6 Brembo 6-pot brake upgrade?

Hi, I have the size “19” brakes TRW sliding calipers with the smaller 360mm front discs. All 4 discs need replacing and the calipers are a bit grotty to say the least, so I was thinking is it possible to use these and those:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175069389808

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264868412222

i.e. would it be a straight swap, all four corners?

The calipers are £1250 with no exchange possible, of course.
I’m not interested to know if I should, just if it would all fit OK, as obviously £1850 is a lot to spend on paperweights Laughing

Appreciate some good tech advice, I’m a bit concerned about the different diameters and possible disc offset, brake hose length/position, etc. Bow down “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

OK, so I ordered the bits and calipers already delivered in 24h, very nice paint finish. I have worked with big industrial brakes, including Brembo, for more than 35 years, so can say these defo are original (refurb) castings, some minor paint overspray on new seals needs removal, ideally castings should be masked/blanked before installing pistons/seals/painting, but otherwise generally pleased.
Discs and pads arrive next week. Will do a full write-up on here when I do the work. Watch this space….. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Hi Craig,

Thank you, yes I am aware of the presence of fake CN brake pads, (and even brakes!). At work we sell similar brakes for wind turbines and the like, so yes caution is advised as you suggest. Will brake balance F/R be affected, or is that smoke & mirrors? It would be good to calculate the area of 6-pot vs 2-pot to see the difference in clamping force, (maybe its actually not much different I suspect). Yes, the linings are larger, however friction is independent of surface area, so all that does is improve lining life, and NOT friction performance, as some folks wrongly think. Yellow Stuff pads seem well recommended for everyday driving? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Yellows are OK. Still had them fade on my Disco 3, but there's a whole lot more weight in that, and we were *pushing on* somewhat Laughing

Thanks Mikey, the answer is probably somewhere on here already but I’m in lazy mode Embarassed
what is the difference between red/green/yellow? I am thinking yellow are softer with more CoF so require less effort but wear faster, or am I wrong? Rolling Eyes I’ve not used these so appreciate advice from someone who has. Bow down
After splashing out nearly £2K on brakes/discs, I don’t want to skimp on pads, even if I’m not really a “press on” kind of driver, I prefer to enjoy the tranquil experience that is the FF, partly why I opted for the V6, which has a lazier delivery and seems to suit the car well, so I’d like to choose friction on a similar basis, I don’t tow or carry much weight, I have a pickup for the heavy stuff, our largest brake calipers by the way are over 900kg each and produce 555kN each side of the disc Shocked “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Sorry, another request please, but I’m on a steep learning curve here. There is some minor corrosion on the brake pipe fittings, so I was thinking about renewing the flexibles all round while I’m on (MY2017) does anyone know the LR part numbers for these and the best place to obtain at a decent price? Bow down
Is it true that LR recommend replacing these every 6 years? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Greens are the lower end of the range, more road based. Used them on lighter stuff, and been fine

Reds were my pad of choice, but having used them in my D3, I took them out after only a few thousand miles, and have now been discontinued for this Range

Yellow pads work at a higher temperature range than greens, ideal for what I need them for, but can be a little dusty

Greens been A1 on our TDv6 for 3 years and 30k miles… fronts just been replaced.
Rears still going strong. Ours is a daily driver around town, on motorways across the country and has towed a heavy trailer. 3.0 TDv6 is no sports car so on that basis, not sure what brake pads could be better…

No noteworthy brake dust.

Very Happy
Hi pld118, no I’ve not posted any pics yet by intent, because I plan a few upgrades soon and want to post after those, “be patient, you must”, lol Whistle

“Gremlin500” comes from TVR forums way back, when I had a Griffith 500 which I called “Gremlin” for obvious reasons.
The huge heat from the 5.0 V8 tends to fry the electricals, resulting in spurious legendary electrical faults. I seemed to spend more time on the train to Newcastle (from TVR dealer in Hexham) than I did driving the car, which was an absolute money pit. I do hope keeping the name isn’t tempting fate tho’ Rolling with laughter

Thanks for your interest! Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
