18 model year

Is the 18 model year facelift worth the extra outlay? Is it a much-improved car? just wondering. tia

Its no secret that the Infotainment in the early years of the L405 is pitiful, leagues behind its competitors.

the 2018 facelift changed this, it has 2 x 10" touch pro duo screens and that was enough for me to buy a facelift, also I think it has better security (I may be wrong) as it has ultra wide band technology.

'Ultra Wideband' (UWB) technology within the vehicle's Smart Keys. UWB is highly effective against so called 'relay attacks' where thieves intercept and transmit the key fob and vehicle security signals to unlock and start vehicles even when the key is not near the vehicle. UWB allows the vehicle to detect the physical location of the key with extreme accuracy and thus prevents relay attacks from being successful.

the Nav map system is a huge improvement, one you can update Rolling with laughter I like the way the route updates and shows all road works live traffic etc
The incontrol app is better and has a guardian feature which when active will notify you if a door or window is opened or alarm activated, or car started, the tracker staff immediately call you. I have tested this feature a few times Rolling with laughter having forgot to stop guardian mode before unlocking.
Car play? not sure if pre 2018 had that, 2018 has.

i Believe the seat controls are better more functions etc, it certainly looks better externally.

I never had a pre 2018 so cant be sure on all the differences, but this has been discussed before on here so do a search

I like tech, so glad I stretched myself for a 2018 facelift Thumbs Up 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I have had a MY16 for 3 years or so and haven’t ever felt like there is anything missing coming from newer BMW’s and Mercedes with some pretty nice tech. I actually prefer physical controls over the touch screens of the loan cars when it’s in for service, there is something rugged and Land Rover about the switch gear.

The Nav is ok but as above years behind the Pro Nav in our old BMW, but being honest I’m a big fan of Waze so typically use that regardless. The only thing that would be nice would probably be Car Play.

For me I couldn’t get my head around what was at the time a huge price jump for what was essentially the same car and engine at its core bar a facelift & entertainment upgrade. But obviously if I didn’t have to think about the cost, I would have gone MY18.

At the time a MY18 was nearly double the price! Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I took delivery of a Facelift 2018 car the day it was released and had terrible problems with the Duo screen Infotainment system. It took nearly two years for LR to sort it out and they only did that by installing a new 2020 system.

So, if you are getting a 2018 car make sure all the upgrades and updates to the system are installed at the dealer's expense, otherwise my advice is don't do it unless you don't mind having no satnav/radio/climate/blank screens etc intermittently!!!

I bought a 2021 car in May last year and it has been faultless Thumbs Up ...... one of the reasons I won't be buying a new L460 until at least 2024 when hopefully all the bugs are ironed out!!! All LR cars from 1984

I'd still go for the MY18 as I think it looks better inside and out. However, if you want to save a bit of money, then you could go for a 2017 which is still pre facelift of course, but does have the new navigation.

I bought mine when it was just over 12 months old and have had it for over 2 years, no issues at all

I specifically wanted the MY17. Updated infotainment but with only the one central screen and no visible exhaust.

Each to their own. Smile Thumbs Up

Apple CarPlay / Android Auto are a must (at least for me) so it's definitely >2018... 2019 Vogue P400e

Of course, could always get the slightly older model and then upgrade the infotainment?

I have those on my MY17. The dealer, at my request, updated all the software. So I assume that they were included in the update.

If the car has ICTP or ICTP Duo and the highline UIP, it can be updated, certainly. But not the earlier ones... 2019 Vogue P400e

My understanding is that the MY17 infotainment system is able to receive “new” updates from a main dealer whereas the previous years were not. MY16 and earlier would need an aftermarket upgrade.

Happy to be corrected, as the research I did was back in 2019.
