Bilstein have advised Island4x4 that the air-springs need to be returned to Bilstein. Island4x4 have again advised that previous failures have only occurred after wheels have been free hanging, which I assume refers to the vehicle being on a hoist rather than without shock absorbers fitted, but I'm requesting confirmation of meaning because there is a huge difference.
I'll contact Bilstein Australia to see if I can send an air-spring to them.

The new LR springs arrived at the local servo yesterday which I collected today and hope to fit tomorrow during a brief break in the weather.

Bilstein Australia is not a subsidiary of Bilstein so were unable to assist. Hence the springs will have to make the journey back to Island4x4 at more expense. However I really need to know the possible warranty outcomes before incurring the postage cost considering that I have now bought original LR versions so have no need for more springs and that I have no confidence that another pair of Bilsteins wouldn't have the same issue. Will Island4x4 or Bilstein pay for their return? Will I be provided with a refund for what I paid plus the majority of the original freight? (I purchased a couple of smaller items with the springs.)

I know that this will not help your case but when I fitted an aerosus replacement bag and it failed on initial inflation all I had to do was send a picture of the bag and received a full refund.

In your case, and the way you seem to be getting Censored about, I'd cut my losses.

If you used a credit card go section 73 if its available to you in Australia

I sent pictures when requested but I suppose that Bilstein might want to closely inspect the failure point, although the pictures clearly show that they both split from almost the top to almost the bottom.

Some discussions will take place as I think this failure will happen to all of this particular product but if I walk away then nothing will be done to prevent further incidents. Not incurring further costs is certainly on my mind though.

Need an airbag for mine (2010 4.4tdv) mrs had a suspension fault pop up and it was sitting on it's arse to the passenger side when left in normal ride height overnight, I've used Island 4x4 numerous times, never had an issue.Looked on their website today and the mentioned bags RKB500240 Bilstein part number is 40-240732 were still available was looking to order a pair, any way got distracted logged in to Island later and the bags weren't listed,(maybe out of stock)but Bilstein may have found a fault, the Island site has crashed at the moment so not sure if it was a glitch or myself being blind maybe worth you checking so as to get a credit or a refund if you already haven't.

I got a refund after Bilstein supplied replacements to the supplier. I hope that Bilstein have discovered a flaw in the design or the material so that they produce one that doesn't explode when extended.

I had purchased replacement genuine LR air-springs from this supplier prior to being advised that a refund would be forthcoming.

The same thing has happened to me 3000kms from home and only recently replaced as preventative maintenance 3 months ago before our trip away.

Blew when in off road height on nothing more than a sandy track Sad

Not unexpected unfortunately for anyone who uses off-road height.

Yes no issues (a small amount of drop overnight gradually stopped happening) , although I should have replaced the whole struts as one shocker is banging a bit and I returned after a month in the UK to a puddle of oil underneath the culprit.

A pair of struts (aerosus again) arrive tomorrow Rolling Eyes
